Troubleshooting

Caution! Be sure the machine is unplugged when you are making repairs, unless otherwise stated.
Problem:
The tape jams or tears.
Possible Cause:
1. The tape is not rolling freely in the receptacle.
2. The tape is getting caught in the tape channel.
3. There is too much weight on the brush.
4. The brush is incorrectly installed in the tank.
5. The blades are not cutting the tape completely.
6. The measuring head spring is adjusted incorrectly.

This troubleshooting section describes potential problems that you may encounter while
working with the Touch Taper, outlines the possible causes for these problems, and
guides you through the corrective actions. Follow the procedures outlined in the
Operation and Maintenance sections of this manual to help prevent problems from

Solution:
1. Adjust the spacer plates to center the roll of tape.
2. Make sure the tape channel is not blocked, and
clear it if necessary. Examine the leading edge of
tape. If it is worn or wrinkled cut the tape to make a
new leading edge. Adjust the tape channel weight
and feed the tape through the channel and under
the measuring wheel.
3. Adjust the pressure pad weight. See page 15. Be
sure the rod on the pressure pad plate is seated in
both of the grooves on the brush tank.
4. The brush must be inserted so the long bristles arch
toward the front of the tank. See page 9.
5. The cutter may be dirty and need to be cleaned. See
page 23.
6. The measuring head spring controls the amount of
pressure the feed wheel exerts on the tape. To
adjust the measuring head spring, see page 45.
