Like all calcium phosphate cements, BIOCERA-VET® OSA
RTU must be injected only after final reduction and stabilization
of the bone defect (if applicable) to prevent manipulation during
the further hardening phase and impairing the setting behavior.
Once it has been injected into the bone cavity, BIOCERA-VET®
OSA RTU must not be manipulated (no dabbing, no corrective
measures, no testing of the hardening, etc.).
Since BIOCERA-VET® OSA RTU is hardened with the
surrounding fluid, the strength development depends on the
shape and size of the filled defect. The surface dimensional sta-
bility of BIOCERA-VET® OSA RTU is achieved after approx. 10
to 15 minutes in an aqueous environment, after approx. 3 days,
the compression strength reaches up to 35 MPa.
BIOCERA-VET® OSA RTU takes several days to set in the im-
plantation site and reaches a compressive strength of up to 45
MPa in a fully hardened state.
Consistency and compressive strength
After initiating the setting process the compressive strength of
BIOCERA-VET® OSA RTU increases steadily. Ten minutes af-
ter injection, a hard outer shell is formed covering the pasty core.
16 to 24 hours after injection, the compressive strength is com-
parable to cancellous bone. The ultimate compressive strength
is three to four times higher than healthy cancellous bone and
reached after about four days depending on the volume/geo-
metry of the filled bone defect and body fluid supply.

STERILIZATION
BIOCERA-VET® OSA RTU is a sterile medical device. It is ste-
rilized using gamma irradiation. Due to the risk of infection trans-
mission and/or the potential impairment of product performance
BIOCERA-VET® OSA RTU must not be cleaned or resterilized.
BIOCERA-VET® OSA RTU is intended for single use only.
STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE
It is recommended to store BIOCERA-VET® OSA RTU in a dry
place at room temperature (between 5 to 25°C). The required
application force and setting speed may change if stored outside
of the stated temperature range. Short-term deviations from the
storage conditions during transportation (maximum of
5 days) have been tested for the range from –23°C to +55°C and
do not result in an unusable product.
As this is a sterile medical device, the packaging must be pro-
tected from damage to avoid contamination of the product itself.
Syringes from damaged packages must not be used.
The expiry date is on the labels. The product must not be used
after this date.
