In order to proceed correctly when measuring the surface roughness, there are a number of points that
should be observed.
1 Whenever possible, mount both the gauge unit and work piece to be measured on a rigid resting
surface, free from vibrations. Clean the surface to be checked thoroughly. While holding the unit in the
hand, be sure you don't move during the measurement operation. If needed, take several measurements
for comparison purposes. If one of them is varying by far from the others, this means that the unit has
been moved during the exploration. The accessories that came with the unit (probe, probe guard and
raising feet) make positioning easier.
2 Switch on the gauge unit. Set desired functions from the menus, if necessary.
3 Cho ose the appropriate cut-off value along with the number of those to be used for the measurement
(see both tables below).
4 Positio n the probe so that its axis lies as far as possible parallel to the surface to be inspected. For
checking purpose, use the function Position, especially when access to the point is not easy.
5 Start the measurement cycle by pressing the ON/OFF/START key
switch or the appropriate Rugosoft 10 command. The transverse unit moves the probe while pulling it
towards itself, until preset position is reached. A warning message is displayed on the first line of the
screen image, followed by the probe advance appearing on the second line. As soon as the surface
examination is completed, display shows all parameter values and the transverse unit brings the probe
back to its standstill position.
The measurement can be ended at once by pressing the key

The ambient temperature and that of the work piece should, as far as possible, be maintained at 20°C
troughout the measurement operations.
