Setting up the
Speakers for Dolby
Pro Logic Surround
Proper speaker positioning is essential in
order to achieve directional effects and
diffused ambience, especially in the case of
the surround speakers. Too much direct
sound from the surround speakers can
make its presence too obvious while too
much diffusion may result in a directionless
sound image. If it is not possible to locate
the surround speakers in the preferred way,
experiment with their positioning while
keeping in mind the goal is to achieve a
diffused and enveloping, but not overly
vague, sound field.
1
Position the left and right speakers so
that they form a 45° angle with your
listening/viewing position. The
surround speakers should be mounted
on the side walls as shown in step 4.

The center speaker should be positioned
even with, or slightly behind the front
left and right speakers.

If possible, mount the surround
speakers on the walls to the sides of
your listening/viewing area, 60 to 90 cm
above your seated position, facing each
other.

Insert two R6 (size AA) batteries.

Battery life
You can expect the remote to operate for
about six months (using Sony SUM-3 (NS)
batteries) before the batteries run down.
When the batteries no longer operate the
remote, replace all the batteries with new
ones.
To avoid battery leakage
If you are not going to use the remote for a
long time, remove the batteries to avoid
damage caused by corrosion from battery
leakage.
