1 General information
1.1 Application / Water sampling duty
To ensure optimum water quality, the German Decree
for Potable Water (TrinkwV) and the DVGW work sheet
W 551 calls for an annual inspection of the potable
water quality in building installations delivering water
to the public (such as schools, kindergartens,
swimming pools, hospitals, pubs etc.) and in
commercial buildings (such as flats to rent, residential
complexes etc.). This applies to all large installations
with a potable water heater content of more than 400
l and/or a pipe content of more than 3 litres in each
pipe between the outlet of the potable water heater
and the draw off point.
The operator of the installation is obliged to have the
inspection carried out by an approved hygiene
laboratory. Water sampling can be carried out easily
by withdrawing water samples according to a
withdrawal scheme. For documentation purposes, the
individual sampling points are fixed as network points
with a position number. However, in practice, these
points do not feature a suitable extraction valve so
that the water quality inspection is very expensive and
time consuming.
