enabled by opening and closing the protective guard. If the sensor is
not working, please check the polarity of the power supply. Closing the
protective guard must not allow to start any hazardous machine func-
tions. The latter may only be triggered using a start command. The
signalling contact must not be used as a »safe contact«. It is only to be
seen as a diagnostic signal for the output relay. After a correct wiring,
open and close the safety guard to check if the enabling signal is given.
Contact symbols are shown for the guard in closed condition. Inductive
loads (e.g. contactors, relays, etc.) are to be suppressed by means of a
suitable circuit, e.g. with contactors/relays with a DC power supply by
a recovery diode antiparallel to the coil; with contactors/relays with an
AC power supply by RC-elements or varistors. Furthermore, shocks
and vibrations exceeding the parameters stipulated by standard
EN 60947-5-2 must be avoided.
N.B.
For actuation from the side, a minimum distance of s = 2 mm must be
observed between the actuator and the sensor (see figure »Approach
from side«). For safe switching-off, the minimum switching distance
s
between actuator and sensor must be exceeded (opening gap of the
ar
protective guard). The sensor and the actuator may be mounted with a
maximum axial misalignment of ± 3 mm. Do not use the device as a
mechanical endstop. Any mounting position is possible. For integration
of the device in the entire system, strictly observe and respect the con-
trol category determined in the risk assessment. Therefore, a valida-
tion according to EN ISO 13849-2 or EN 62061 is necessary. Further-
more, the Performance Level according to EN ISO 13849-1 and SIL CL
Level according to EN 62061 can be lower than the single level be-
cause of the combination of several safety components and other
safety-related devices, e.g. by serial connection of sensors. It is the
responsibility of the manufacturer of a plant or machine to guarantee
the correct general function. steute does not assume any liability for
recommendations made or implied by this description. Subject to
technical modifications. New claims for guarantee, warranty or liability
cannot be derived from this document beyond the general terms and
conditions of delivery.
Verification of safety functions
To recognise faults in a two-channel system with relay outputs, it is
detect to carry out a test sequence as follows:
for PL e, category 3 or category 4, once per month;
for PL d, category 3, once per year.
Test sequence
Actuate the moving safety guard once. In case of proper function, both
safety outputs and the signalling contact have to be switched off and
then on again.
Maintenance
With careful mounting as described above, only minor maintenance is
necessary. We recommend a routine maintenance as follows:
1. Check switching function.
2. Check for tight installation of the sensor and coded actuator.
3. Check for alignment of sensor and actuator.
4. Remove dirt and metal shavings.
5. Check enclosure for damage.
6. Retighten screw connection terminals.
Behaviour in case of failure
A green LED indicator is located in the lid. In case of a malfunction, the
LED will not light up, and the two output relays will not be switched on.
State of the relay contacts (safe state):
for BZ16-03F/T 11-12, 21-22, 31-32 open
for BZ16-12F/T 13-14 closed, 21-22, 31-32 open
This can be triggered by the following:
- alignment of sensor and actuator not correct.
- minimum switching distance not reached.
- safe switch-off distance not reached.
- interference by strong external magnetic fields.
- strong shocks or vibrations that lead to actuation of the contacts
(exceeding shock resistance).
- undervoltage.
- switching frequency too high.
Cleaning
- In case of damp cleaning: use water or mild, non-scratching,
non-chafing cleaners.
- Do not use aggressive cleaners or solvents.
Disposal
- Observe national, local and legal regulations concerning disposal.
- Recycle each material separately.
