Hazards may arise as a result of improper use. In particular, improper use includes the
following:
• use of single parts or the overall system for purposes for which they were not intended
• unauthorised structural modifications or incorrectly executed repairs
• combination with components from other manufacturers
• use of the shaft ladder to transport loads
• use of parts other than those supplied or approved by Zarges
The following safety equipment (fall protection devices) is approved for use:
• fall arrester system in accordance with DIN EN 353-1:2014 from Zarges
Use a fall arrester system in accordance with DIN EN 353-1:2014 from a climbing height
of 5.00 m or if work is to be performed from the shaft ladder unit.
Special conditions in the shaft (e.g. atmospheres) may render fall protection devices
necessary even with small climbing heights.
Do not manipulate safety equipment. If defects are ascertained, the shaft ladder system
must not be used.
The operator is under obligation
• to compile operating instructions for the use of the shaft ladder system. These
instructions must contain all necessary information for safe use of the equipment.
• to instruct personnel using the equipment at least once per year, on the basis of the
operating instructions.
• to take appropriate measures to prevent unauthorised use of shaft ladders.
2.5.1 Use
The operator must ensure that shaft ladders are only used by personnel familiar with
the shaft ladder system. Personnel must be in appropriate physical condition to use the
shaft ladder system.
Persons under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication reducing reaction times
must not be allowed to work on or with shaft ladders.
2.5.2 Assembly
Shaft ladders must be assembled by specialist personnel.
Specialist personnel are authorised by the operator. Such personnel are persons whose
professional training, specialist know-how and knowledge of the relevant regulations
place them in a position to carry out the tasks assigned to them and identify and avoid
possible risks.
