10. MALFUNCTION
Under particular conditions the air conditioner can have operation mal-
functions which often are apparent or determined by accidental causes
or, most of the time, by trivial ones.
Warning!
Before requesting the service centre to intervene, it is recommended to
have simple checks in order to continuously make the best use of the air
conditioner performance as well as to avoid useless service interventions.
Defect
The air conditioner does not start.
The remote control display dims when a command is sent.
Doesn't the air conditioner indicate reception of the signal sent by the remote
control with a "beep"?
In winter use is the starting of the internal ventilation delayed of a few minu-
tes or does it suddenly stop and restart after some time?
In winter use the external fan turns for a couple of minutes even if the air
conditioner has been turned off.
Does the air conditioner not cool sufficiently?
Does the indoor unit of the air conditioner have surfaces with condensation,
especially near the cold air outlet?
Does the air conditioner not heat sufficiently?
If the air conditioners emits strong odours?
The air conditioner is noisy?
Possible cause
- Is the air conditioner electrically supplied?
- Are there any wrong operation settings on the remote control?
- Is anything stopping the reception of the infrared signal on the air conditio-
ner? (a beep must be heard).
- Are the batteries in the remote control correctly inserted?
- Are the remote control batteries flat?
- It is a normal situation since the air conditioner is equipped with a thermal
sensor inserted in the coil of the indoor unit which optimizes the operation
of the fan till a temperature of 38 °C is reached.
- It is a normal situation since the air conditioner disposes all the heat pre-
sent in the exchanger.
- Are the indoor unit air filters dirty or clogged?
- Is the outdoor unit grid clogged?
- Is there an open window?
- Is the temperature on the remote control set regularly?
- If the room is very humid this phenomenon is considered normal.
- If the room is not excessively humid check the correct direction of the air
flowing out of the air conditioner.
- Open windows.
- Are the indoor unit air filters dirty or clogged?
- Is the outdoor unit grid very clogged?
- Is the temperature set on the remote control correct?
- If the indoor unit is installed very high, due to the hot air stratification phe-
nomenon, it is recommended to set the temperature on the remote control
with an increase of 4/5 °.
- During heat pump operation, frost accumulates on the surface of the outdo-
or unit which reduces the efficiency of the air conditioner.
Such frost is melted and removed with the "defrosting" operation entirely
managed by a microprocessor.
With severe outdoor temperatures (-8 °C) or high humidity (90% U.R.), the
defrosting cycles will be more frequent and in such case it will be necessa-
ry to resort to another source of additional heat.
- Have the filters been cleaned?
- Has ordinary maintenance been carried out?
- When the air conditioner starts to cool or stops during heating, it is possi-
ble to hear noises such as rustlings or gurglings due to the cooling liquid's
circulation inside the conditioner;
- Upon the air conditioner's starting or turning off, creaks may be heard due
to dilatation.
