N Clean the spark arresting screen. If
the screen is damaged or heavily
carbonized, fit a new one.
N Reassembly in the reverse
sequence.

Winter Operation

Change the air intake to the winter mode
to reduce the risk of air filter and
carburetor icing.
At temperatures below +10°C
N Pull out the air diverter and refit it so
that the openings face the clutch
housing.
At temperatures above 10°C
N Pull out the air diverter and refit it so
that the openings face outwards.

Spark Plug

N
If the engine is down on power,
difficult to start or runs poorly at idle
speed, first check the spark plug.
N Fit a new spark plug after about 100
operating hours – or sooner if the
electrodes are badly eroded. Install
only suppressed spark plugs of the
type approved by STIHL – see
"Specifications".
Removing the Spark Plug
N Push the slide control in the
direction of the arrow on the stop
symbol (h) to 0.

N Loosen the screw (1) on the cover
and swing the cover away.
N Pull off the spark plug boot (2).
N Unscrew the spark plug.
