This directs control commands to the
escape door control unit 720-20(22) and
provides a check on operating modes and,
if applicable, alarm conditions, by means
of LED indicating lamps. An integral
emergency switch effects the immediate
release of the locking element.
These Operating Instructions apply to
escape door control units types 720-20
and 720-22. The control unit type 720-22
is a development which is required when
no emergency-cutout switch is installed at
the escape route door. This means,
however, that automatic disconnection
must be assured.
Since, as a rule, this function cannot be
assured, a manually operated, general
emergency unlocking facility is required
from a central, permanently manned
position.
If a general emergency unlocking facility
of this type is adopted for all doors, the
circuitry must comply with the state of the
art without fail and afford the utmost
possible safety.
To meet this type of situation, effeff has
developed a self-monitoring safety circuit
which, like the emergency button (in
normal cases), is connected direct to the
power circuit for the electrical lock, which
is reliably released when the button is
operated. This safety circuit is integrated
into the escape door control unit type 720-
22. A Certificate of Approval for this circuit,
approved by VdS (German Federation of
Property Insurers) and TÜV Rhineland
(German Technical Inspectorate) is
available.
At the same time, however, we wish to
point out that dispensing with an emer-
gency button at the door, i.e. the most
important element of an escape door lock,
should be cleared without fail with the
appropriate Building Inspectorate and
officially approved accordingly.

Installation

effeff escape door control systems must
be installed by qualified technicians in
accordance with the „Building Inspection
Authority requirements for the electric
locking of doors on escape routes" or
equivalent in the country of use. Any
regulations laid down in special building
directives must also be followed to the
letter.
The installation of the system itself must
comply with the electrical and electricity
company regulations applicable in the
country of use. The connections between
the control unit and other components
must be made in accordance with the
connection diagram. It is advisable for the
locking element to be actuated by way of
a separate cable (by induction when the
coil is energized).
To satisfy EMC requirements, only shielded
leads should be used.
In buildings subject to severe interference,
we recommend the use of multi-shielded
leads, including those to the locking
element.
Control leads:
Maximum length: 300 m
Minimum lead diameter: 0.6 mm
Lead to holding magnet:
Maximum length 100 m.
Cross-section:
The cross-section must be such
that a voltage of 24 V DC is pre-
sent at the locking element by
utilizing the regulating range of the
operating voltage.
For safety reasons, we recommend that
the electrical cables be concealed or
installed in heavy-duty conduits. The
system can be put into service as soon as
it has been correctly installed. Before it is
switched on, the power supply of 230 V
AC (24 V DC in the case of a separate
power supply) must be assured.
