OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
BUCKING – The sawing of a log or fallen tree into smaller pieces
(fig. 17-18).
When bucking up a log, check to see where the log is supported
and determine which way the two halves will fall when cut. If the log
is under tension, always start with a relieving cut (1) at compression
side. Then make a bucking cut (2) at tension side. If the saw
pinches, stop the engine and remove the saw from the log.

MAINTENANCE

WARNING
Always wear protective gloves during maintenance operations.
Do not carry out maintenance when the engine is running or hot.
Maintenance, replacement or repair of the emission control devices and systems
may be performed by any off-road repair establishment or individual.
WARNING
Never start the engine without having the clutch cover securely in place
otherwise the clutch can come loose and cause personal injury.

CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT

In the carburetor the fuel is mixed with air. Every saw is run at the factory and the
carburetor is set in compliance with Emission Regulations. The carburetor is
equipped with "H" (High Speed) and "L" (Low Speed) needle adjustment settings
with limiters to keep the settings within acceptable limits. The "H" and "L" settings
should only be adjusted by an authorized service technician. The carburetor has
only one possible adjustment, the idle speed (fig. 19).
IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT – (T)
Before adjusting idle speed, make sure the air filter is clean, spark arrestor is in
place and the bar and chain are properly tensioned. Clutch cover is secured.
Start the engine and run the engine for several minutes to warm up. When the idle
speed is correct, the saw chain does not rotate. To adjust the idle speed, turn the
idle speed adjustment screw (T) clockwise until the saw chain begins to turn, then
turn the idle speed adjustment screw counter-clockwise until the saw chain stops
turning. Then turn the idle speed adjustment screw an additional 1/4 turn counter-
clockwise (fig. 19).
WARNING
Saw chain must not move when the saw is idling.
