START-UP

achieve steadier operation (e.g. when the pump is
frequently switched on and off).
Auto-reset interval: If the water is low, the
3.
integrated dry-running protection responds and
switches off the system. This value specifies after
how long an automatic restart is to be performed.
If there is enough water, the error is deleted and
the system goes into normal operation. If there is
still not enough water, another attempt is made
after the set time expires.
Auto-reset attempts: This value specifies how
4.
often an auto-reset is to be carried out. If the val-
ue is exceeded, the operator must acknowledge
the error manually before the system is switched
on again. The auto-reset function can be deacti-
vated with the value "0"!
Starts/h: A leak in the pipeline can create pres-
5.
sure losses. They cause the pump to be continu-
ously switched on. This value specifies how often
the pump may be started per hour. A start is only
counted if water is then not removed at more
than 2.5l/min. The monitor can be switched off
with the value "OFF".
Rotation direction: Change of rotation direction.
6.
PiD control: This value defines the reaction speed
7.
of the system to pressure changes. A low value
means a slower but more accurate reaction to
changes. A high value means a faster reaction
to pressure changes.
Freq. min: This value is the minimum frequency
8.
for feeding the pump. The value is expressed
as a percentage of the maximum frequency.
9.
imax: This value defines the maximum current
consumption in normal operation. If the value
is exceeded or is less than 0.5 A, the pump is
switched off. If the value 0.5 A is set during in-
stallation, the limit value "Imax" must be entered
each time the pump is switched on. The pump
only starts after this limit value is input.
The value set for "imax" must not be higher
than the rated current specified on the name
plate. A higher value would overload and
irreparably damage the pump!
10. Auxiliary contact: Depending on the setting of
the menu item, more functions are available:
• 1 <-> = normal or dual operation
In this setting, the pump can work as an indepen-
dent system or with a second system as a dual
pump installation.
• 2 <- = remote operation
Switching on and off is performed via remote
control. This is used, for example, when the pump
may only start if all the intake sliders are open.
Control of the intake sliders can then be linked
to the auxiliary contact.
• 3 X2 = Pmax2
Allows a second value to be entered for the max-
imum pressure "Pmax2". If, for example, a higher
pressure at the tapping points is needed for
consumers used occasionally, this can be called
up with the switch. If the switch is open, the value
"Pmax" is considered. If the switch is closed, the
value "Pmax2" is considered.
Installation and operating instructions Wilo-Sub TWU 3/High Speed
6.4. Start-up
The work area of the unit is not a recreational
area and is to be kept free of persons! No per-
sons are allowed in the work area during start-
up or operation.
6.4.1. initial start-up
The following points must be checked before the
initial start-up:
• Inspecting the installation as described in the
"Installation" section.
• Performing an insulation check as described in the
"Maintenance" section.
• Setting the operating parameters on the fre-
quency converter (with TWU 3-..-HS-ECP) as
described under "Operation and function".
• Bleeding and flushing the system.
6.4.2. Bleeding the pump and pipe
• Open all the sliders in the intake and
d ischarge pipe.
• Switch the pump on. To bypass the built-in
dry-running protection of the TWU 3-...-HS-ECP,
press and hold the "+" button on the frequency
converter. The pump now operates at maximum
output.
The air disappears through the corresponding
bleeder valves. If you have not fitted any bleed-
er valves, please open the tapping points to let
the air out here!
• When the pump and pipe system have been bled,
switch the pump back off. To do this with the
TWU 3-...-HS-ECP, press the "ON/OFF" button
on the frequency converter.

6.4.3. Before switching on

The following points must be checked before
switching on the submersible motor pump:
• Cable guidance – no loops, slightly taut
• Check the temperature of the pumped liquid
and the submersion depth – see technical data
• The pump is fixed securely – vibration-free
operation must be assured
• The accessories are fixed securely
• The suction chamber of the pump sump and the
pipelines must be completely free of dirt.
• You can use an electrically actuated check valve
to reduce or prevent water impact. The unit must
not be switched on in a throttled or closed slider
position.
Never let the machine run dry.
6.4.4. Switching on
• Unit with integrated frequency converter
(TWU 3-...-HS-I)
The unit does not switch on automatically and is
switched on and off manually using a separate
operating position (on/off switch) provided by
the customer. A separate level controller must
be installed for automatic operation.
• Unit with external frequency converter
(TWU 3-...-HS-ECP)
