ELECTRiCAL hazard
When using the pump in swimming pools or
other accessible pools, there is a risk of elec-
trocution. Note the following information:
• Use is strictly forbidden if there are people
in the pool!
• if there are no people in the pool, protec-
tive measures must be taken according to
DIN EN 62638 (or the appropriate national
regulations).
Proper use also includes observation of this
manual. Any other use is regarded as improper.
4.1.1. Pumping drinking water
When using to pump drinking water, the locally
applicable guidelines/laws/regulations should be
reviewed as to whether the pump is suitable for
this purpose.

4.2. Construction

The Wilo-Sub TWU...HS is a water-proof sub-
mersible motor pump which is operated vertically
and horizontally in a stationary position via a fre-
quency converter.

4.2.1. Hydraulics
Multi-stage hydraulics with radial impellers
arranged in sections. The hydraulic housing and
pump shaft are made from stainless steel, while
the rotors are made from polycarbonate. The dis-
charge-side connection is designed as a vertical
threaded flange with internal thread and integrat-
ed backflow preventer.
The pump is not self-priming, which means that
the pumped liquid must flow independently or
with intake pressure and a minimum level of
submergence must be ensured at all times.
4.2.2. Motor
Oil-filled three-phase motors, for direct start-
up and operation exclusively with the frequency
converter, are used. The motor housing is made
of stainless steel and has a shaft connection for
3" hydraulics.
The motor is cooled by the pumped liquid. The
motor must therefore always be submerged when
operated. The limit values for the maximum liquid
temperature and minimum flow speed must be
adhered to.

The connection cable has free cable ends, is
longitudinally waterproof and connected to the
motor using a detachable plug.
4.2.3. Frequency converter
The frequency converter is either installed as
an external component (TWU 3-...-HS-ECP)
or  i ntegrated in the motor (TWU 3-...-HS-I).
Like the motor, the frequency converter is cooled
by the pumped liquid. The external converter is
fitted in the rising pipe for this. The internal con-
verter is cooled by the fluid flowing around it.
The frequency converter offers the following
monitoring devices:
Monitor
Undervoltage
Overvoltage
Short circuit
Temperature (frequency converter)
Dry running
Leak
The external converter is not flood-proof!
E nsure that protection class "IP X5" is observed
and install so that it is always safe from flooding
and in a dry room!
4.2.4. Sealing
The sealing between the motor and hydraulics
is made using a lip seal.

4.3. How it works

4.3.1. "HS-i" version
In the "HS-I" version, the pump is switched
on and off using a separate switching system.
After being switched on, the pump runs up to the
maximum speed using the integrated frequen-
cy converter and pumps at full power. Control
independent of frequency and pressure is not
possible.
4.3.2. "HS-ECP" version
The "HS-ECP" version is operated with an
external frequency converter. Firstly, it is used
as a separate control unit for the pump and,
secondly, it has a regulation function for con-
stant pressure ("CP"). With this function, the
same pressure at the tapping point can always
be  e nsured, regardless of the flow volume.
The pump is controlled with the frequency
converter, on which the target pressure is set.
As soon as water is taken from the tapping point,
the frequency converter switches the unit on.
The frequency converter uses the preset pressure
to calculate the required water quantity and regu-
lates the motor speed accordingly. This enables
the pressure to be kept constant at the tapping
point.
