connectors or adapters. Adapters should be considered consumables and, therefore, have to be checked
before each welding operation.

Reading the Fitting Code with the Scanning Pen

The bar code on the tag sticking on the fitting to be welded is the only one that can be used. If the code
tag of the fitting to be welded is in poor condition and cannot be read, use the tag of an identical fitting
from the same manufacturer and belonging to the same batch of production. It is not acceptable to read
the bar code tag of a fitting of a different kind.
To read the fitting code, place the scanning pen next to the tag, inclining it slightly, and move it consis-
tently and quickly across the bar code left-to-right or right-to-left. If the data are correctly read, this is con-
firmed by an audible signal and the decoded data on the screen (see Display 4).
The ambient temperature is also measured and displayed. The "Start ?" message means that the welding
unit is ready to start the welding process. Check the data read and if you see that there are errors, delete
them by pressing the STOP/RESET key. The read data are also deleted if the welding unit is discon-
nected from the fitting.

Starting the Welding Process

The welding process can be started by pressing the START key, when the "Start ?" message is displayed
on the screen and there is no indication of a problem. After the START key
was pressed, a confirmation message "Pipe treated?" is displayed, which has
to be reacted to by pressing the START key again to start the welding proper.
5.8

Welding Process

The welding process is monitored for its entire duration applying the welding
parameters applicable to the electrofusion fitting. If a parameter is outside
tolerance, the welding is aborted and the error is displayed in clear on the screen.
5.9

End of Welding

The welding process has ended successfully if the actual welding time corre-
sponds to the nominal welding time and the audible signal buzzes twice. The
welding process has caused errors if an error message is displayed in clear
on the screen and the audible signal emits a continuous tone. An error has to
be reacted to by pressing the STOP/RESET key.

5.10 Cooling Time

The cooling time as given in the fitting manufacturer's instructions has to be respected. If the bar code
provided by the fitting manufacturer contains information on the cooling time, it will be displayed on the
screen at the end of the welding process and will be counted down to zero. The cooling time countdown
can be confirmed and canceled at any time by pressing the STOP/RESET key. However, note that during
that time no external forces must be applied to the pipe fitting joint which is still warm.
After welding is finished, disconnecting the fitting from the unit or pressing the STOP/RESET key will re-
set the unit back to the start of data input.

5.11 Manual Input of the Welding Parameters

When the fitting was connected to the welding unit by the welding cable, the manual input of welding pa-
rameters can be accessed by pressing the Ø arrow key. The screen will show a menu as reproduced in
Display 6.

5.11.1 Entering the String of Numbers

If this option was chosen in the manual input menu, the "Enter Numeric
Series" display shows. The 24 characters that represent the fitting code to be
entered display as asterisks ( * ). Use the arrow keys ×, Ø, Õ, Ö to enter the
code. By pressing the START key, you confirm your input which will then be
decoded. If the code entered is not correct, a "Code Error" message appears;
check the string of numbers and correct as needed. If the code entered is
