1. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

The purpose of this document is to describe all of the available functions on the MasterCase2 hardware platform. These functions may
however not be managed by this version of the software. For further information on the effective possibilities available in the softwa-
re see the user manual (code +03P22022*).
MasterCase2 is an electronic microprocessor device developed by CAREL for applications in the supermarket sector, for the control of
showcases and cold rooms. The controller adopts integrated solutions that are generally part of electrical panels, such as:
• built-in transformer (20 VA);
• power relay fi tted on the controller;
• electronic valve driver (E
2
V);
• PWM output for ON/OFF valve with protection fuse.
The device is ideal for OEM customers.
It uses the same programming systems as the pCO sistema family controllers.
The program and the parameters are saved to FLASH MEMORY, ensuring they are maintained even in the event of power failures
(without requiring a backup battery). The product can be connected to the pLAN (pCO Local Area Network), as envisaged for the pCO
sistema family controllers, and a sub-network called the tLAN, allowing the connection of expansion devices (pCOe in tLAN, parametric
controllers with tLAN or PST family terminals).
The program can be loaded from a PC or by programming key using the pLAN connector.
Connection to the supervisor/telemaintenance serial line via the RS485 standard is performed by installing optional serial boards on the
control device, with the CAREL or TCP/IP (pCOWeb) communication protocols.

1.1 Installation warnings

Avoid the assembly of the boards in the rooms that foresee the following characteristics:
• Relative humidity greater than 90%.;
• Strong vibrations or knocks;
• Exposure to continuous water sprays;
• Exposure to corrosive or pollutant gases (e.g. sulphur or ammonia fumes, saline mist, smoke) so as to avoid corrosion and oxidisation;
• Strong magnetic and/or radio interference (therefore avoid installing the unit near transmitting antennae);
• Exposure of MasterCase2 to direct sunlight or the elements in general;
• Large and rapid fl uctuations in ambient temperature;
• Environments where explosives or mixes of fl ammable gases are present;
• Exposure to dust (formation of corrosive patina with possible oxidation and reduction of insulation).
When connecting the MasterCase2 boards the following WARNINGS must be heeded:
1) Using a different power supply from the one specifi ed may seriously damage the system;
2) For correct wiring, strip the wires by 6 - 7.5 mm and insert the entire stripped part of the wire in the terminals; then close the terminal
and check tightness; the cables must have a shape and length such as to avoid excessive stress or tension on the terminals;
3) Reduce the path of the probe cables as much as possible, and avoid spiral paths that enclose power devices. The connection to the
probes must be made using shielded cables (minimum cross-section of each wire: 0.5 mm
4) Avoid touching or nearly touching the electronic components fi tted on the boards, so as to avoid electrostatic discharges (extremely
dangerous) from the operator to the components;
5) Do not fasten the cables to the terminals on the board by pressing the screwdriver against the terminal with excessive force, to avoid
bending the board same;
6) The control device is design only to be supplied to the manufacturer of the fi nal appliance;
7) After the correct installation of the control device inside the fi nal appliance, the dangerous parts of the appliance must not be
accessible without using tools; in addition, there must not be openings around the appliance that allow contact with dangerous parts;
8) The appliance must be installed according to the rules and the instructions provided by the manufacturer, to avoid all types of
problem.
