Compact ceiling-mounted units KWL EC 220/340 D
2.0

Assembly

The KWL compact units are suitable for "hanging", for ceiling installation and therefore intended for
installation within a residential/room unit. Due to operating noises which change according to system
pressure, it is recommended to install the KWL unit in ancillary rooms. Ensure that there is a waste water
connection in the installation area. Please consider the information in section 2.2 "condensation outlet"!
Installation should take place in such a way to enable preferably short ventilation ducts and their trouble-
free connection to the unit. Tight bends can lead to increased pressure loss and flow noise. The ventilation
pipes must never be kinked. The attachment to the connection spigots must be firm and tight. With regard
to maintenance and installation work, the unit and the internal terminal box must be freely accessible.
Important note:
1. The terminal box is accessible on the left side under the inspection cover (Fig.36/37).
2. The ventilation pipe must be made of non-combustible material at least 1 m before and after the
electric auxiliary heating coil (see Functional layout Page 4).
3. In order to avoid sound transmissions, a suitable acoustic insulation must be planned on site
depending upon the structure.
4. The installation of the KWL compact unit is permitted only in frost-protected areas, since the
danger of freezing exists. The ambient temperature may not drop below +10 °C!
5. In order to adjust the air flow volumes, all ventilation unit connectors must be accessible at least
up to a length of 20 cm from the side edge of the ventilation unit. Alternatively, pressure
measuring connectors and pressure measurement tubes must be added in the connection
spigots on site when installing the unit, so that pressure can be properly measured.
2.1

Ceiling installation

Four mounting brackets with vibration dampers are provided with the unit for ceiling installation. These are
mounted to the lower side walls with self-tapping screws (Fig.3/4). Ceiling installation takes place on site
with long M8 threaded rods (Fig.4).
TIP!
With regard to ceiling installation, it is recommended that the heat exchanger is removed from the unit to
reduce the assembly weight when lifting. Furthermore, a support batten can be mounted to the wall
provisionally to absorb the weight! When installing the heat exchanger, ensure the correct location and
positioning of the metal trays! (see also point 3.3)
It must be ensured that the installed unit is 100% perpendicular (indispensable for proper

condensation outlet).

2.2
Condensation outlet
During the heating period, the humidity of the extract air condenses to water. In new buildings or while
having a bath or sauna as well as with laundry-drying, plenty of condensate can be formed. The resulting
condensation water must be discharged from the unit via the provided ball siphon (point 2.2). For this
purpose, the on-site connection to the local wastewater system must be ensured.
– The drainage pipeline must not rise behind the ball siphon!
Ensure that there are no air pockets during installation!
– The condensation outlet must be frost-proof!
– In order to ensure regular maintenance, the ball siphon must be freely accessible!
– Another siphon may not be used, as this may lead to problems with regard to condensation
extraction and this normally leads to water damage.
– The condensation outlet must be cleaned annually!
Only carry out work with EMC protection, as otherwise EMC damage can occur!
