Place gate on a flat, stable surface to mount
the hinges to the gate. The gate can be
adjusted to swing up to 180°. If you want the
gate to swing inward, mount the hinges to
the inside of the gate. To have the gate swing
outward, mount the hinges to the outside of
the gate.
Place the hinges at the desired position on
the gate upright; if mounting gate to the left
side post, the head of the tension adjustment
pin and the + or – sticker should be facing up.
If mounting to the right side post, the head
of the tension adjustment pin and the + or –
sticker should be facing downward.
Ensure that hinge tabs rest firmly against
the gate upright (Fig. 5) and mark pilot holes
through the screw holes. Pre-drill in these
locations using a ³/ " drill bit. Attach hinges

to gate with 1" supplied screws (item D from
component list) (Fig. 6).

Set your gate with attached hinges on spacer
blocks (cut to the desired height of your
bottom rail space) to support it and make sure
that the gate is level/plumb with gate posts
(Fig. 7). Tabs on gate hinges must rest firmly
against the gate post.
Mark pilot holes from gate hinge to your post,
and then move hinge aside to pre-drill these
marks using a ³/ " drill bit.

Re-position hinges onto post and attach
using 1" supplied screws (item D from
component list).

The Boerboel hinges used in this kit have
the hinge tension pre-set at the factory,
and typically do not require adjustment.
If you wish to change the tension setting,
place the allen wrench into the head of the
tension adjustment pin in the hinge, Holding
the Allen wrench in place, press a flat head
screwdriver into the bottom end of the pin in
the hinge, pushing the head of the tension
adjustment pin above the top of the hinge.
Holding the screwdriver in place, turn the
Allen wrench toward the + sign to tighten
the tension or towards the – sign to loosen
the tension.
NOTE: Do NOT adjust by more than ¼ turn
except to disable the self-closing feature.
