Connecting the power supply

Depending on the vehicle type (with or without RDU fuse holder (Fig. 1/6a, 3/3 sedan or
Fig. 1/6b, 4/2, station wagon), power must be connected as follows.
Version A (with RDU fuse holder):
Power is picked up from the RDU at the rear.
18. Lay the red cables to the RDU (Fig. 3/3, 4/2). Cut the cable to size and crimp the supplied
small socket contacts onto the cable end.
19. Dismount the RDU and insert the socket contacts of the red cable and of the red/blue cable
from below into the prepared fuse compartments, e.g. F65, F66 (constant plus terminal strip,
Fig. 3/4, 4/3). Attention if not equipped, version A is missing. Then connect according
to version B. Then reassemble the RDU.
20. Insert two 15A minifuses into the fuse holder.
Version B (without RDU fuse holder):
Power is picked up directly from the front fuse box.
21. Lay the red cables along the vehicle's cable harness to the fuse box (Fig. 1/2).
22. Let the quick-connect receptacle of the red cable of the cable harness and the one of the
enclosed single red cable with the black connector lock into place in the fuse holder (Fig. 2).
23. Repeat step 22 with the second fuse holder.
24. Take the black plug out of slot ("B") of the fuse box (Fig. 1/2) and connect it to its matching
counterpart on the cable harness. Plug the other plug-in connectors back into slot ("B"). Make
sure that the plugs lock firmly into place.
25. Insert fuse (Fig. 2).
26. Fasten the plug-in connectors below the fuse box in a suitable manner.
Note
The constant plus line on pin 9 of the socket is integrated into the cable set.
Note
Ensure sufficient strain relief and correct installation of the fuse holder and of the plug-in
connectors.
27. Using the 3-pin connector for the constant plus extension kit (Fig. 1/8), the functions "Charge
lead" and "Ground for charge lead" can be retrofitted.
Special information concerning vehicles with parking distance control (PDC)
On vehicles with PDC it is possible to deactivate the PDC for trailer operation.
28. Lay the brown/white cable (Fig. 1/10) near the right-hand tail light to the PDC control unit
(Fig. 4/4) and connect it to the 16-pin plug (Fig. 4/5) on pin 5.
Checking correct operation
29. Reconnect the ground of the vehicle's battery.
30. Check the trailer function with the help of a suitable test instrument (with load resistors) or
with the help of a trailer.
31. Secure all cables using cable ties.
32. Reattach any parts removed for installation.
