Camshaft Locking Tools
3088-15 (Yellow) and 3088-16 (Blue)
NOTE:
These tools are colour-coded for
engine use identification.
Prior to model year 1999 the 1.8
16V EcoTec engine was based on the 2.0 16V
and uses Locking Tool 3088-15 (Yellow). From
model year 1999 the 1.8 16V is based on the
1.6 16V and uses Locking Tool 3088-16
(Blue).
These tools are inserted between the two
camshaft sprockets, locating firmly into the
gear teeth of the sprockets. This action locks
the sprockets to prevent them from turning
out of their timed position, when timing belt is
removed. Camshaft timing marks must align
before inserting locking tool.
NOTE:
OPEL camshaft timing marks vary
in position according to the model
of engine. For example, they can be
at the top (3 A), or centered (3 B). Check
service information carefully.

Crankshaft Pulley Removal
• On the 1.4, 1.6 and later 1.8 16V engines
(with Aluminum Sump Pans), timing belt
replacement requires the removal of the
crankshaft pulley
• Use Flywheel Holding Tool 3088-17 to 'lock'
engine whilst releasing/tightening the pulley
bolt.

Composition and Function
Maintenance work on engines must be carried out only by
Auxiliary Belt Tensioner Locking Pin
3088-10
• To remove the auxiliary belt from certain
EcoTec 16V engines the auxiliary belt
tensioner roller must be moved away from
the auxiliary belt and retained back by
Locking Pin 3088-10 to release tension from
the belt.
• The Pin 3088-10 is inserted through a hole in
the tensioner roller and into a hole in the
tensioner mounting bracket to retain the
tensioner roller away from the auxiliary belt.
