Flywheel (Crankshaft) Locking Pin 3088-7
• The crankshaft/flywheel is locked in position
TDC by Locking Pin 3088-7 which is located
into the flywheel via a datum hole in the
gearbox bell housing. 3088-7 incorporates a
spring which can be attached to a nearby
bolt to retain it in the hole.
Chain Tensioner Retaining Pin 3088-8
• When removing the timing chain or guide
rails, the hydraulic chain tensioner must
be released and 'locked' back using
Pin 3088-8.
Timing Belt Replacement
1.9 CDTi Multijet Common Rail Diesel
Engine – Single Camshaft 8V (120PS) and
Z19DTH Twin Camshaft 16V (150PS)
➪ For model usage / engine codes
refer to Application Chart, pages 6-7.
The timing belt configuration is the same for
both Z19DT and Z19DTH engines. On the
twin cam Z19DTH, the belt drives the exhaust
camshaft which in turn drives the inlet cam,
via gears.
• For timing belt replacement, both applicati-
ons require the same tool to 'lock' cranks-
haft position (3088-11), on both variants.
• On the single cam engine the camshaft is
aligned to timing marks.
• On twin cam engines however, special
Setting Tools 3088-9 are required to position
the camshaft.
• Set the engine at TDC No.1 cylinder on
ignition stoke.
NOTE:
Check the engine timing is correct
by fitting the appropriate timing
tools.

• Z19DT (OHC) – Ensure camshaft sprocket
timing mark aligns with the mark on the
camshaft housing cover.
• Z19DTH (DOHC) – Fit Camshaft Setting
Tool 3088-9.
• Both camshafts have a timing slot and are
locked in timed position by 3088-9 which
screws in to the camshaft housing, and
locates into the camshaft timing slot. The
spindle of 3088-9 is spring loaded.
• Turn camshaft slowly - as the spindle
engages the slot in the camshaft an audible
'click' will be heard as the spring pushes the
spindle into the 'timing slot'.

• Crankshaft Locking Tool 3088-11 -
Z19DT and Z19DTH
• Locking Tool 3088-11 is fitted to establish
the crankshaft at TDC. To fit 3088-11,
remove the oil pump bolt and insert Support
Spindle of 3088-11, then attach the Main
Body of 3088-11.
• Turn the crankshaft slowly to locate the
dowel on the crank gear into the hole in the
main body of the tool and secure the Main
Body in place with its bolt through to the
crank gear.
NOTE:
3088-11 will need to be temporarily
removed and re-fitted when fitting a
new timing belt.
• Having now checked that the engine is at
TDC No.1 cylinder/ignition stroke, remove
Locking Tool 3088-11, slacken belt tensio-
ner and remove the old timing belt.
Fitting new timing belt
• Fit new belt around the crank gear prior to
attaching Locking Tool 3088-11.
• Ensure the dowel on the crank gear is
correctly located in 3088-11
• Secure the tool in place with its bolt through
tool and into crank gear.
• Continue fitting the new timing belt ensuring
the non-tensioned side is taut.
