Camshaft Setting Plate 3088-12
• Setting Plate 3088-12 is used to position
camshafts in their timed position by locating
into the horizontal slots machined at the
back of each camshaft.

Crankshaft Locking Pin 3088-13
• Locking Pin 3088-13 is used to position the
engine/crankshaft at TDC. It is inserted
through the engine block and engages in a
'slot' provided on the first crank web of the
crankshaft.

Chain Tensioner Retaining Pin 3088-8
• The simplex timing chain has a tensioning
rail applied by a hydraulic tensioner. The
tensioner and the rail must be carefully
levered back and retained by Chain
Tensioner Retaining Pin 3088-8. A service
hole is provided in the timing cover.
NOTE:
For 'Timing Adjustment' procedures
the tensioner rail must be retracted
to avoid damage to the rail.
Timing Adjustment
• If the crankshaft and camshafts can be
'locked' in correct position using Crankshaft
Setting Plate 3088-12 and Crankshaft
Locking Pin 3088-13, but Cam Timing
Position Tool 3088-14 cannot be installed on
the timing disc, retract and retain the
tension rail (away from chain using Chain
Tensioner Retaining Pin 3088-8).
• Release the inlet camshaft sprocket bolt
(counter-hold the camshaft).
• Fit a new sprocket bolt loosely - allowing the
timing disc to turn.
• Remove the Tensioner Locking Pin 3088-8
and position the cam timing disc using Cam
Timing Position Tool 3088-14.
• Then tighten camshaft sprocket bolt.
