Assembly, installation
and safety instructions
ATTENTION!
This device is not intended for use by persons, including children, with
restricted physical, sensory or mental abilities or who lack the necessary
knowledge or experience, except under the supervision of a person
responsible for their safety or unless they have been instructed by this
person as to how the device is to be used. Children must be supervised
to ensure that they do not play with the device.
Please follow these installation and safety instructions exactly to prevent
hazards and damage to people and property.

1.1 General safety information:

ATTENTION!
Always disconnect the power supply before carrying out any work on the
installation. The electrician must ensure through suitable measures that
the installation is disconnected from the power supply (all poles). Only
then can the replacement or installation of the heater be started.
ATTENTION!
When storing the heater below approx. -15 °C the limiter can switch off
the screw-in heater, preventing it heating up. This does not mean there is
a defect or a faulty product. üüüüIf this fault occurs, the green reset
button on the limiter must be pressed (under the red cover on the upper
part of the casing). The heater is once again ready for operation. To
completely prevent this fault occurring, the radiator should not be stored
at ambient temperatures below -10 °C.
1.2 Installation and safety
instructions
1)
The screw-in heater is designed exclusively for the supple-
mentary heating of water in closed or open containers.
2)
Installation in enamelled containers is not permitted.
3)
During operation, the radiator and the sensor protection tube
must be sufficiently immersed in water on all sides. The
heat-induced flow of water must not be obstructed.
4)
The mounting position must be horizontal.
There must be a 1 ¼" sleeve present.
5)
The unheated area of the screw-in heater is
approx. 120 mm from the sealing surfaces.
6)
The radiator must be disconnected from the power source
before any work is carried out on the device.
7)
The ambient temperature on the casing must not exceed
80 °C.
8)
The heater is set to a maximum operating pressure of
10 bar.

1.3 Electrical connection

ATTENTION!
Installation of the heating element and initial commissioning must only
be performed by authorised and qualified personnel.
ATTENTION!
The electrical connection must always be carried out according to the
type-related circuit diagram (see Fig. 1.1 on page 2).
ATTENTION!
Make sure that the connection voltage is correct! All metal parts of the
cylinder which can be touched must be included in the protective
measures.
A disconnecting switch (1 or 3-pole) with 3mm contact clearance
must be provided for in the electrical supply line. A (slow-acting
and switching-off) circuit breaker is also permissible as a discon-
necting switch. The connection cable must be fed through the
pipe union (included in the scope of supply) into the screw-in
heater, and must be secured using a strain relief device against
being pulled out and twisted.

Version with contactor control
VDE-tested contactors which are installed on site, for example, in
a control cabinet or a current distribution board are required for
installation. The contactors must have a label identifying their
safety function for the water heater. Power ratings for selecting
the contactors can be seen in the Table 2.1 on page 4 in the
»Switching assembly« column. The safety temperature limiter
(STL) contactor must be dimensioned for the total output of the
switching assemblies. After installation is complete, the fault-free
function of the contactors must be checked.
ATTENTION!
Do not forget to close the protective conductor!
The container must be equipped with metal inlet and outlet pipes
for water.
All metal parts of the cylinder which can be touched and which
come into contact with water must be permanently and reliably
connected to the protective conductor. An all-pole disconnecting
switch with 3 mm contact clearance must be provided for in the
electrical supply line.
