Waterline Maintenance Instructions
Dental Unit Waterline Overview:
Dental Unit Waterline Maintenance is a key component
to a facility's effective Infection Control and Prevention
Protocol. The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) recommends that dental unit water
used in nonsurgical procedures measure less than or
equal to 500 colony forming units of heterotrophic
bacteria per milliliter (≤500 CFU/mL) of water, the
standard set for drinking water by the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA). All dental unit waterlines
should be treated, shocked, and tested following CDC
recommended guidance. If outside the US, standards
may differ, check your local regulations on safe
drinking water.
Follow the dental chair manufacturer's Instructions for
Use for treating and shocking your waterlines.
Before Use:
Dentsply Sirona recommends that you perform
waterline testing on your new Cavitron scaling system
prior to use on a patient.
