Operation/maintenance
The working pressure of the installation should be at least 5% below the closing
pressure of the safety valve. This means that the safety valve can close correctly
again after blow off. In case of minor leaks caused by impurities between the
sealing surfaces, the valve can be cleaned by lifting it up to blow off. If this does
not remove the leak, the sealing surface is probably damaged and this can only be
repaired at our factory or by authorized specialists.
The activation of ventilation occurs either through an activation thread or through
the spring cover, depending on the design (Fig. a) by turning anti-clockwise (then,
the activation thread must be turned back to the stop) or by actuating the activation
lever on the upper part of the valve (Fig. b).
Safety valves with gas-tight cap (Fig. c)
In the case of safety valves with gas-tight covers, the seal cap must not be removed
from the housing, otherwise, the gas seal is no longer ensured. If unscrewing the
seal cap for repair purposes is then necessary, it must be ensured that the spring
tension is released before removal. Prior to removal, it must likewise be checked
whether and what medium could be located in the cover or in the housing. Potential
risk of chemical burns or poisoning.
Lifting device for maintenance
In the case of safety valves with a lifting device it is recommended, and in certain
plant-specific cases even stipulated that the valves from time to time must be made
to blow-off by lifting the seal off the seat, in order to assure the correct functioning
of the safety valve. They can be opened at an operating pressure of ≥85 % of the
response pressure at the latest. The lifting device is not to be operated when in a
pressure-free state.
Safety valves represent the last point of protection for the silo or installation. They
should be capable of preventing unauthorized excess pressure when all other
upstream regulation, control and monitoring devices fail. To ensure these functional
characteristics safety valves require regular and recurring maintenance. The main-
tenance intervals for these fittings are to be specified by the operator according to
the conditions of use.
6
Dismantling the fitting
In addition to the general valid assembly instructions, attention must be paid that
the installation must generally be depressurized before dismantling the valve.
Moreover, the system must be drained and ventilated in the case of aggressive and
corrosive media. The safety valve must have adjusted to room temperature.

Repairs
Repair work on safety valves is only to be carried out by Goetze KG Armaturen or by
officially approved specialist workshops authorized by Goetze KG Armaturen using
original spare parts only.
