Getting acquainted

This device combines
x acupuncture and
x TENS functions.
Acupuncture is a therapeutic method from
traditional Chinese medicine, with origins
that reach back into ancient times.
The acupuncture points can be used to di-
rectly regulate the vital energy or "Qi", which
travels through the body via the meridians.
The electronic acupuncture unit is a safe
electronic unit that allows this form of ther-
apy to be used without needles. The elec-
tronic acupuncture unit detects acupuncture
points automatically and signals this by
means of audible and visual indicators. The
device stimulates the acupuncture points
with three predefined stimulation pro-
grammes. The stimulation strength can be
adjusted at any time to attain optimum com-
fort.
TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve
Stimulation) is the term used to describe the
electrical stimulation of nerves through the
skin. TENS is an effective, clinically proven,
non-medicated method approved for treating
particular types of pain, which if used prop-
erly, has no side effects. This makes it per-
fect for self-treatment.

The pain-relieving/suppressing effect is
achieved, among other methods, by pre-
venting the nerves from conveying the pain
messages (mainly by using high-frequency
pulses) and increasing the release of the
body's own endorphins, which act on the
central nervous system to reduce the sensa-
tion of pain. This is a scientifically supported
and medically approved method.
Your specialist must approve use of TENS for
any complaint. He/she will also advise you on
the appropriate use of TENS self-treatment.
TENS is clinically tested and approved for
use in the following applications:
x Back pain, also lumbar and cervical spine
x Joint pain (e.g. knee joints, hip joints,
x Neuralgia
x Headache
x Period pain
x Pain caused by musculoskeletal injuries
x Pain from circulatory disorders
x Chronic pain from various causes
20
complaints in particular
shoulders)
