Mounting

6.1 General Information

The following connections need to be made on the heat pump:
supply/return lines of the heating system
condensate drain
control lead to the heat pump manager
power supply

6.2 Heating-Side Connection

The connections on the heating side of the heat pump are provi-
ded with 1" external thread. The hoses to be connected exit the
unit through its base plate. When carrying out the connections,
use a wrench to counterhold at the transitions.
Before completing the heat pump connections on the heating
water side, the heating installation must be flushed in order to re-
move any impurities that may be present, residues of sealing
agents, or the like. Any accumulation of residues and other depo-
sits in the condenser may result in a total failure of the heat
pump. On systems equipped with heating water flow shut-off de-
vices such as radiator or thermostat valves, an overflow valve to
be provided by the customer needs to be installed at the outlet of
the heating pump in a heating bypass. This assures a minimum
heating water flow through the heat pump and prevents any mal-
functions from occurring.
Once the installation on the heating side has been completed,
the heating system must be filled, de-aerated and pressure-tes-
ted.
Consideration must be given to the following when filling the sys-
tem:
Untreated filling water and make-up water must be of drink-
ing water quality (colourless, clear, free from sediments)
Filling water and make-up water must be pre-filtered (pore
size max. 5µm).
Scale formation in hot water heating systems cannot be com-
pletely avoided, but in systems with flow temperatures below
60°C the problem can be disregarded.
With medium and high-temperature heat pumps, temperatures
above 60°C can be reached.
The following standard values should therefore be adhered to
concerning the filling water and make-up water (according to VDI
2035 Sheet 1):

Minimum heating water flow rate
The minimum heating water flow rate through the heat pump
must be assured in all operating states of the heating sys-
tem. This can be accomplished, for example, by installing either
a dual differential pressureless manifold or an overflow valve.
The procedure for adjusting an overflow valve is described in the
Chapter Start-Up. When the minimum flow rate is undershot
drastically, the plate steel exchanger in the refrigerating cycle
can freeze, which can lead to total loss of the heat pump.

NOTE
The use of an overflow valve is only recommended for panel heating and
a max. heating water flow of 1.3 m³/h. System faults may result if this is
not observed.
Frost Protection
On heat pumps installed in a location prone to frost, a manual
drain valve (see figure) should be provided. Provided the heat
pump manager and heating circulating pumps are ready for ope-
ration, the frost protection feature of the heat pump manager is
active. If the heat pump is taken out of service or in the event of
a power failure, the system has to be drained. In heat pump in-
stallations where a power failure cannot be readily detected (ho-
liday house), the heating circuit must contain a suitable anti-
freeze product.

6.3 Electrical Connection

The power connection of the heat pump is effected via a stan-
dard 3-core cable.
The cable has to be supplied by the client and the wire cross-sec-
tion to be selected according to the power consumption of the
heat pump (see Equipment Data in the appendix) as well as the
relevant EN (VDE) and VNB regulations.
The power supply of the heat pump must be equipped with a dis-
connecting device with a contact gap of at least 3 mm (e.g. utility
service contactor, power contactor) as well as a 1-pole automatic
circuit breaker (tripping current as stated in the Equipment Data).
The control voltage is supplied via the control lead and the heat
pump manager.
The 230V AC-50 Hz power supply of the heat pump manager is
effected as described in its instruction manual (fusing 16 A).
The control lead (not included in the scope of delivery) is connec-
ted to the heat pump manager by means of the two rectangular
connectors. In the heat pump, the plug connector located at the
bottom of the unit in the immediate vicinity of the lead feed-th-
rough through the base of the unit is to be used. More detailed in-
structions are contained in the instruction manual of the heat
pump manager.
For more detailed information refer to the wiring diagrams in the
appendix.
