OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
PH PROBE PHT-02 ATC

INTENDED USE
The probe allows measurement of the pH of aqueous solutions in the range of 0 to 14. The pH value is a
measure of the acidity or alkalinity of an aqueous solution. The measurement is applicable to liquids that
are not subject to any voltage. Automatic temperature compensation ensures reliable readings even at
different measuring temperatures.
The device can be calibrated for the measurement to compensate for wear of the electrode. To this end,
the device houses two calibration controls that allow adjustment of the zero point (pH7) and the lower refer-
ence point (pH4) or the upper reference point (pH10), if necessary.
The device conforms to protection class IP57 and thus, dust and waterproof, and can be immersed up to
max. 1 m for a short time.
Operated via two Lithium button batteries of the CR2032 type. No other electrical power supply is permit-
ted. The measuring stick turns off automatically after 5 minutes.
Measurement is not allowed in areas prone to the risk of explosions (Ex).
Use other than that described above will lead to damage to the product. No part of the product may be
modified or converted! The safety instructions are to be observed without fail!

Please read all the instructions before using this device, they include important informa-
tion on its correct operation.
Damage due to failure to follow these operating instructions will void the warranty! We
do not assume any liability for any resulting damage!
We do not assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by improper
use or non-compliance with the safety instructions! In such cases, the warranty will be
null and void.
An exclamation mark in a triangle indicates important information in these operating instructions
which is to be followed strictly.
The "arrow" symbol is used where special tips and notes on operation are provided.
This device has been CE-tested and it therefore meets the necessary national and European
guidelines.
Persons/product
The unauthorized conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible for reasons of safety and
approval (CE).
The device must be set up correctly. Therefore, please follow the operating instructions carefully.
Measurement instruments used at schools, training facilities, do-it-yourself and hobby workshops should
not be handled unless supervised by trained, responsible personnel.
Be careful when handling flammable, caustic or alkaline liquids. In that case, wear safety gloves, goggles
and an apron. Only measure in well-ventilated environments.
Do not switch the measuring instrument on immediately after it has been taken from a cold in to a warm
environment. The condensation that forms might destroy your device. Allow the device to reach ambient
temperature before switching it on.
Do not leave packing materials unattended. It could be a dangerous plaything for children.
Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures, strong vibrations or strong mechanical stress. The
correct operation of the display is only guaranteed in the temperature range 0 to +50 °C.
Apart from changing battery or electrode, the housing may not be opened or dismantled.
The glass electrode is well-protected within the replaceable electrode and may not be touched.
Electronic devices are not toys and must be kept out of the reach of children.
Do not leave the buffer solutions unattended. They could be swallowed by children or pets. If swallowed,
ask the person to drink plenty of water. The water taken in may not be vomited. Then consult a doctor
immediately.
Avoid direct contact of buffer solutions with the skin or the eyes. In case of contact, wash the affected skin
area with soap and a lot of cold water. In case of contact with the eyes, wash the eyes under running water
for about 15 minutes.

Batteries
Make sure that the polarity is correct when inserting the batteries.
Remove the batteries, if you are not going to use the device for a while, to prevent damage from leaking.
Leaky or damaged batteries can cause burns upon contact with the skin. Therefore, you should wear
protective gloves when handling damaged batteries.
Keep them out of the reach of children. Do not leave batteries lying around. There is a risk that the batter-
ies may be swallowed by children or pets. If they are swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.
Replace all of the batteries at the same time. Mixing old and new batteries may lead to battery leakage and
thus to damage to the device.
Do not dismantle batteries, do not short-circuit them or throw them into a fire. Never try to charge regular
batteries. There is a risk of explosion!

INSERTING/CHANGING BATTERIES
Insert the included batteries before putting the device into operation for the first time.
A battery change becomes necessary when the display becomes hard to see or when the device can no
longer be turned on. When the batteries are empty, the measuring stick turns off automatically within
3 seconds after being switched on.
To insert/replace the batteries proceed as follows:
Screw the screw lid (1) of the device.
Remove the used batteries from the battery compartment (9), if necessary. The
opening at the back of the battery compartment helps to lift off the batteries
with an object.
Place two identical new batteries with the correct polarity into the battery
compartment. The positive pole of the batteries has to point downwards to the
device.
Close the battery compartment carefully.
All screw-fitted parts are protected from infiltration of water using rubber seals. Make sure that
the seals are not pinched or damaged. Regular use of silicone grease is recommended.
COMMISSIONING
Preparation
The meter is used to measure a glass electrode with an open-pore membrane. This membrane may not
dry out, so as to preserve its special properties.
Always make sure that there is sufficient soaking solution in the moistening cap (7). A few drops of soaking
solution are sufficient here.
Remove the protective cap (8) from the device. This cap is merely plugged.
Screw the moistening cap (7) of the replaceable electrode (5) and check the liquid. If necessary, fill a few
drops of the soaking solution into the moistening cap and screw it again onto the electrode.
Always screw the moistening cap onto the electrode to to prevent drying out during longer measurement
downtimes.
Provide distilled or deionised water and soft paper towels to clean the electrode.
In order to ensure the function of this device over a long period of time, the pH electrode needs to be
cleaned with distilled water after each measurement (see maintenance and cleaning).
ALIGNMENT / CALIBRATION
Alignment / calibration should always be performed after an electrode change or before the first measure-
ment. In a measurement series, it is sufficient to perform a calibration after about every 10
or after several days of measurement downtime. If the supplied buffer solutions are used up, these can be
purchased optionally.
Calibration of the zero and the reference point should always be performed sequentially.
Screw the battery compartment (1) lid of the device.
There is a holder inside with a small alignment screwdriver (12). Remove this. Leave he
battery compartment open.
Remove the protective cap (8) and the moistening cap (7).
Rinse the electrode head and the glass electrode with distilled water and pat the replaceable electrode dry.
Do not touch the glass electrode inside the electrode head, as this may damage it.
