- Unplug the device from the mains before cleaning it.
- Only use the accessories recommended by the manufacturer.
- Do not use a sharp tool when handling the device.
- Do not change the AC adaptor, the battery and the charger. Use the adaptor,
battery and charger supplied in order not to compromise the minimum safety
requirements.
- Do not use the battery with any device other than the THERMOFLASH® PRO LX-
261 EVOLUTION, or attempt to modify it for any other use.
- Avoid placing the battery on metal or wet surfaces, or inside a metallic container.
This could short-circuit the contacts (positive and negative) of the battery and
cause it to overheat or even to explode.
- Always remove the plugs from the device, the battery and the charger when the
device is put away and not used for a long period of time.
II. INTRODUCTION
The THERMOFLASH® PRO LX-261 EVOLUTION, developed by Visiomed®, is a
revolutionary infra-red medical thermometer without contact, fitted with cutting
edge MicroSecondFlash™ automatic calibration technology using latest infrared
technology.
This latter allows temporal artery (TA) temperature to be taken at a distance of
about 5cm away from the right forehead (temple).
Precise, instantaneous and without contact, the THERMOFLASH® PRO LX-261 EVO-
LUTION is totally suitable for a precise temperature measurement without risk. It
has been shown that this TA temperature measurement, for newborn, is more pre-
cise than tympanic thermometry and better tolerated than rectal thermometry (1).
However, as with other types of thermometer, it is essential to use the THERMO-
FLASH® PRO LX-261 EVOLUTION properly in order to obtain reliable and stable
results. You are therefore advised to read this instruction manual and the safety
precautions carefully before use.

III. PRECAUTIONS BEFORE USE
The THERMOFLASH® PRO LX-261 EVOLUTION is pre-set at the factory. It is not
necessary to calibrate the device when starting it up.
In order to obtain reliable and stable results, you are advised each time there is a
significant change in the ambient temperature due to a change in environment, to
allow the THERMOFLASH® PRO LX-261 EVOLUTION to acclimatize to this ambient
temperature for 15 to 20 minutes before using it.
Please observe the following before any temperature measurement to ensure a

stable and reliable result :
- Push back hair from the right forehead (temple).
- Wipe away any perspiration from the right forehead (temple).
- Allow a 1 minute interval between two measurements.
- Avoid any drafts (e.g. from nasal specs, air conditioning...).
IV. OPERATING PRINCIPLES
All objects, solid, liquid or gas, emit energy by radiation. The intensity of this
energy depends on the temperature of the object. The THERMOFLASH® PRO
LX-261 EVOLUTION infrared thermometer is therefore able to measure the tem-
perature of a person by the energy the person emits. This measurement can be
taken thanks to an external temperature probe on the device which permanently
analyses and registers the ambient temperature. Therefore, as soon as the ope-
rator holds the thermometer near the right forehead (temple) and activates the
radiation sensor, the measurement is taken instantly by detection of the infrared
heat generated by the arterial blood flow. Body heat can therefore be measured
without any interference from the heat of the surrounding environment.
BODY TEMPERATURE
A important concept: the estimation of body temperature
The normal value of the body temperature is located on an interval, and not fixed
on an invariable value. Each person has his own temperature scale. The temperature
can vary depending on age, sex, the time of day, activity and emotions, depending
on the temperature-taking method (rectal, oral, axillary, ear, forehead). Temporal
temperature-taking, located the nearest possible to the brain and the heart, is
considered as a reliable measurement because it is close to the core temperature.
When the body temperature drops or increases, the body first regulates its tem-
perature from the brain. As the forehead and ear are the nearest body parts to the
brain, they are the first to be informed of a temperature rise.
Your physiological temperature when you are in good health Visiomed®, tempe-
rature-taking specialist, advises taking your forehead temperature when you are
in good health. You can compare these results with when you have a fever.

The different methods of temperature measurement

- Core temperature
Core temperature is the most precise measurement and involves measuring the
temperature in the pulmonary artery by means of a catheter equipped with a ther-
mal probe which can read the temperature in situ. The same method is employed
for probes measuring the esophageal temperature. However, such invasive tem-
perature measurement methods require specific equipment and expertise.
