2 AUTHORIZED USE
Non-authorized use of the positioner Type EP 501 B may be a
hazard to people, nearby equipment and the environment.
The device is designed for the open-loop control and closed-loop
control of media.
▶ Do not expose the device to direct sunlight.
▶ A pulsating direct voltage (rectified alternating current without
smoothing) must not be used as supply voltage.
▶ During use observe the permitted data, the operating conditions
and conditions of use specified in the contract documents and
operating instructions, as described in chapter "6 Technical
data" in this manual and in the valve manual for the respective
pneumatically actuated valve.
▶ In view of the wide range of possible application cases, check
whether the positioner is suitable for the specific application
case.
▶ Correct transportation, storage and installation, as well as care-
ful use and maintenance are essential for reliable and faultless
operation.
▶ The positioner Type EP 501 B must be used only for its
intended purpose.

If exporting the system/device, observe any existing restrictions.
3 BASIC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
These safety instructions do not make allowance for any
• contingencies and events which may arise during the assembly,
operation, and maintenance of the devices.
• local safety regulations – the operator is responsible for observing
these regulations, also in relation to the installation personnel.
Danger – high pressure!
▶ Before loosening lines and valves, turn off the pressure and vent
the lines.
Risk of electric shock!
▶ Before reaching into the device or the equipment, switch off the
power supply and secure to prevent reactivation!
▶ Observe applicable accident prevention and safety regulations
for electrical equipment!
General hazardous situations
To prevent injuries:
• In a potentially explosive area, the positioner Type EP 501 B may
be used only in accordance with the specification on the separate
Ex rating plate. For the use, observe the additional information
enclosed with the device with safety instructions for the EX area.
• Devices without a separate Ex rating plate may not be used in a
potentially explosive area.
