12. WARNING
Safe installation and use of your fall arrest device will be
ensured by following the instructions given in this manual.
You should however refrain from the following.
Do not:
- secure the fall arrest device by any means other than that
recommended in this manual,
- install or use the fall arrest device using a damaged wire
rope,
- use the fall arrest device on a lifting or pulling installation for
which the working load limit exceeds the working load limit of
the fall arrest device,
- use the fall arrest device without first having completed the
checks described in this manual,
- use the fall arrest device for any operation other than those
for which it is intended, or install the device in any way other
than that described in this manual,

- apply a load, other than the ballasting weight, to the slack
strand of the fall arrest wire rope,
- use the fall arrest device in an explosive environment (device
not compliant with ATEX directive 94/9/CE) or use the device
in any highly corrosive environment,
- use the fall arrest device at temperatures less than -10°C or
greater than +50°C,
- use any other means for operating the BSA fall arrest device
other than the lifting wire rope,
- use any other means for operating other than the stirrup or
handle on the BS fall arrest device,
- use the fall arrest device to perform lifting or pulling
operations,
- use the fall arrest device if it has not been inspected for more
than 1 year,
- use the fall arrest device without first having checked that all
its safety equipment operates correctly,
- use the fall arrest device with any wire rope other than a
genuine TRACTEL
®
wire rope,
- actuate the lever on the BSA fall arrest device,
- actuate the stirrup on the BS fall arrest device with load,
- modify the adjustment on the BSA fall arrest device,
- make any changes to the fall arrest device,
- interfere in any way with movement of the stirrup or handle
on the BS fall arrest device,
- interfere in any way with movement of the lever on the BSA
fall arrest device,
- block the BS fall arrest device in a fixed position or prevent it
from self-aligning on the lifting or pulling wire rope,
- strike the control components on the fall arrest device,
- use chemical products (acids, chlorinated products) to clean
the fall arrest device.
13. MARKINGS
Each fall arrest device is engraved (fig. 3) with the following
information:
• item 1: basic model of fall arrest device,
• item 2: wire rope diameter in mm,
• item 3: serial number of fall arrest device; the first
2 digits correspond to the last two digits of the
year of manufacture (ex.: 08 for the year 2008).

A label is fastened to each BSA (fig. 4) and BS (fig. 5) fall
arrest device; it contains the following information:
• item 1: designation,
• item 2: model,
• item 3: wire rope diameter in mm,
• item 4: "man lifting" symbol,
• item 5: working load limit for man lifting in kg,
• item 6: "materials load lifting or pulling" symbol,
• item 7: working load limit for load lifting or pulling in kg,
• item 8: symbol indicating obligation to read this manual
before installation and use of the fall arrest
device,
• item 9: manufacturer's address and contact details.

c) loss of tension on the lifting wire rope caused by blockage
or snagging when the suspended platform (fig. 8) is coming
down,
d) a lateral inclination greater than 14° with respect to the
horizontal (on suspended platforms with hoist on each end)
(fig. 9).
The zinc-plated steel wire rope guide (item 3, fig. 2) ensures
that the lifting wire rope (item 6) is always in contact with the
roller (item 4, fig. 2).

3. COMPOSITION OF A STANDARD SUPPLY

Each BLOCSTOP
TM
fall arrest device is supplied with this manual and an incorporation statement. These documents are
contained in a plastic bag fastened to the unit.
The following options are available with the BS fall arrest devices:
Standard supply
Without shackle (item e, fig.1)
With shackle (item e, fig.1).
Unlock stirrup (item d, fig.1)
With handle (item 1, fig.10) in place of stirrup (item d, fig.1) for models
15.301, 20.301, 35.30 only.
NOTE: In this manual, operation of the fall arrest device is described with stirrup; operation is the same with handle.

IMPORTANT
: Each fall arrest device is factory-adjusted
(position of lever (item 2, fig. 2) with respect to housing
(item 1, fig. 2)) by means of a screw and a locknut. It is
prohibited to change the adjustment of the lever with respect
to the housing.
DANGER
: Any change to this adjustment will
automatically release TRACTEL
®
of any liability.
