life of the pack.
22. Nickel-cadmium batteries (NC)
We recommend the following charge
rates for NC batteries:
High-energy batteries: 1 - 2C; please
observe the battery manufacturer's stated
figures.
High-current batteries: 2 - 3C, max. 5C; at
high charge rates the temperature of the bat-
tery should be monitored. If the cells become
too hot, the charge current should be redu-
ced.
It is important to observe the maximum
charge rates stated by the cell manufacturer.
At the same time check that the connectors
and charge leads are suitable for the charge
current you have elected to use.
The final discharge voltage of NiCd batteries
should be in the range 0.85 to 1.00 Volt / cell.
The Delta-Peak sensitivity should be around
5 - 8 mV / cell.
Guide values:
NiCd batteries
Standard applications, long battery life
= 6 - 8 mV / cell
More demanding applications
- 9 - 10 mV / cell
Competition usage
= 12 - 15 mV / cell
The charger automatically calculates the cor-
rect cut-off voltage difference for the whole
battery pack by multiplying the individual cell
value by the cell count.
When the pre-set value is reached during the
charge process, the charge is interrupted,
and the charge end indicator described ear-
lier appears on the screen.
These figures are no more than a general
guideline, and vary according to the actual
battery type. It is still essential to read and
observe the recommendations of the battery

manufacturer.
23.
(NiMH)
We recommend the following charge
rates for NiMH batteries:
High-energy batteries: 0.5 - 1C; please
observe the battery manufacturer's stated
figures.
High-current batteries: usually 1C, alt-
hough many battery types can be charged
safely at 1.5 - 2C; if you wish to use high
charge rates, the battery temperature
should be monitored. If the pack heats up
excessively, the charge rate should be
reduced.
Please check the maximum charge current
figures stated by the battery manufacturer.
The final discharge voltage of NiMH batte-
ries should be 1.00 Volt / cell.
The Delta-Peak sensitivity should be
around 3 - 5 mV / cell.
Guide values:
NiMH batteries
Standard applications, long battery life
= 5 mV / cell
More demanding applications
- 6 - 7 mV / cell
Competition usage
= 8 - 9 mV / cell
If you set a low peak value for NiMH cells,
you may find that high-capacity packs and
old batteries suffer premature charge ter-
mination.
If this should occur, set the cut-off value
slightly higher, and re-start the charge
process.
