2. General description

The Power Peak E1 is a good-looking,
high-performance computer-based charge /
discharge station including battery manage-
ment, capable of working with all currently
available battery types. The unit's elegant,
clearly laid-out design is made possible by
the new Cap-Touch system.
The front panel has a smooth surface wit-
hout any projecting controls, thanks to the
use of zero-contact sensors for the switches
and rotary control.
The generous screen (192 x 128 pixels) is
divided into twelve lines, permitting the use
of a large, clearly legible screen font.
The screen displays the essential parame-
ters of the current process in numeric or
graphic form.
The charger incorporates flash memory
technology and is therefore future-proof, as
updated software can be loaded at any time;
the charger can be revised in this way to
cater for new battery technologies or to suit

existing types more accurately.
The charging station can be connected to a
PC via the integral USB port. The renowned
free PC software Logview, which is desig-
ned to record, store, compare and print out
battery data, can be used to process the
data generated by the Power Peak E1 char-
ger.

The charger's internal memory enables it to
record data even when it is not connected to
a PC; the data can then be read out and sto-
red later.
In the interests of safety the charger is
capable of monitoring battery temperature;
the temperature can be displayed on-screen
during the charge process. It is even possi-
ble to set up the charger to terminate the
charge process at a particular user-variable
temperature.
The charger features an integral equalizer
for 2 x seven-cell Lithium-Ion, LiPo, LiFe
and special batteries.
A vast array of different battery types is now
available to the modeller, and the range is
constantly expanding; the problem is that
each battery type requires its "own" charge
process. It can happen so quickly: you
switch the system on with the wrong set-
tings - and in a moment your valuable bat-
tery is damaged.
The revolutionary BID system from robbe
provides an ingenious solution to this pro-
blem. A small, lightweight BID chip is assig-
ned to each battery.
