LiPo = Std. 3.0 V / cell (range 2.5 - 3.6 V / cell)
LiON = Std. 3.0 V / cell (range 2.5 - 3.6 V / cell)
LiFE = Std. 2.7 V / cell (range 2.5 - 3.6 V / cell)
If you wish to alter the variable values, please
read the section entitled "A brief guide to bat-
tery types" so that you are aware of the effect
of these changes.
Cut-off temperature (charge only)
In this menu point you can determine a tem-
perature at which the charge process is to
terminate; available range: 10°C to 80°C.
When entering this setting please note that
the charge process will be terminated by eit-
her the "cut-off temperature" or the "cut-off
voltage" - whichever is triggered first. This
may have the effect that the battery is not
fully charged when the process is terminated.
This is an important protective function,
especially for battery types which are sensi-
tive to temperature, e.g. NiMH and Lithium.
If you wish to monitor the temperature wit-
hout employing it as a cut-off criterion, simply
set the cut-off temperature to a high value.
8.1 Battery settings with BID-CHIP / KEY
If a BID chip is connected, a
BID symbol appears in the
"OUT 1 Data" menu, and
the list of battery settings is
expanded.
If the BID chip is unformatted (new), a BID
memory error message appears, requesting
you to enter BID data.
Special battery menu
If a BID chip or key is connected to the unit, a
further battery type bearing the name "Spe-
cial" is available in the Select menu.
At this point you can set the final charge and
discharge voltages without restriction within a
broad range of values.
This setting can be used to charge virtually
all Lithium and other battery types available
currently and in future, provided that they are

designed to be charged using the CC - CV
charge process; all these types can then be
charged using the Power Peak E1.
Set-up range:
Charge voltage:
Pre-set 2 V / cell, range 2 - 6 V / cell
Discharge voltage:
Pre-set 2 V / cell, range 0.8 - 6 V / cell
Of course, the internal equalizer is adjusted
automatically to take account of the pre-set
values, and thereby ensures that the cell vol-
tages are perfectly balanced.
This Special setting can also be used in order
to bring batteries to a medium voltage level of
about 3.9 V per cell for over-wintering.
Before any protracted period of storage, sim-
ply set the discharge voltage to 3.9 Volt / cell
and discharge your Lithium batteries to this
level.
Caution: when you use the Special menu it
is essential to enter the settings with particu-
lar caution, as incorrect values can easily
result in the destruction of the battery!
The menu is expanded by the data input and
BID save facility:
Note:
Do remember to confirm the settings! If you
set the values for the BID-CHIP / KEY then
simply disconnect the battery, i.e. without
confirming the settings by pressing "Enter"
at the "END SAVE BID" point, the "old"
values remain stored in the memory. Please
bear this in mind, because if you subse-
quently charge or discharge the pack, you
will be using the wrong values, and this
could wreck the battery connected to the
charger!
