To reduce the probability of contact with water craft, PROV-CARBON's target speed during the initial stages
of descent is high

deployment) above. This minimizes the time during which the float is at risk of damage.
To slow the float's descent, its controller is programmed with a series of depths at which the descent speed
is halved until it reaches the target depth.
