5.9. Launching

Following is what you should do to launch the PROV-CARBON float.

5.9.1. Test the Float and arm the mission

Before you take PROV-CARBON on deck for deployment, we recommend that you repeat all of the
acceptance tests described in
functioning and configured correctly and maximize the probability of success of your experiment.
IMPORTANT: Before launching the float, you must arm the mission by issuing the !AR command:

PROV-CARBON will respond:

Put the magnet on the float.
NOTE: Once the mission is armed, the next time you will attempt to communicate with the float
upon magnet removal, you need to press «ENTER» within 30 seconds (before the pump
starts) in order to get the prompt

5.9.2. Remove protective plugs and magnet

The pump system of the CTD sensor is sealed by 3 protective plugs. Remove these plugs from the sensor
before launching.
Remove the magnet located near the top of the float. Retain the magnet for future use in case the PROV-
CARBON float is recovered.
PROV-CARBON is now ready for launch.
To confirm that the magnet has been removed and that the float is ready for launch, 30 seconds after
magnet removal PROV-CARBON starts the pump for 2 seconds. The PROV-CARBON may be horizontal
during this stage of deployment.
NOTE: Once the magnet has been removed, the PROV-CARBON float performs an initial test.
Ensure that the pump starts as explained above before placing the PROV-CARBON in the
water.
If your do not hear the pump running after 30 seconds, replace the magnet, connect the PC, and conduct
the acceptance test described in section
