BS-500 ENDOSCOPE BASE UNIT

INTENDED USE
The endoscope base unit, in connection with an endoscope camera (sold separately), provides
a visual means for optical error diagnostics and inspection of systems and devices that are dis-
connected from the voltage supply.
The camera image is displayed on an integrated TFT monitor and the lighting on the tip of the
camera can be adjusted continuously with this endoscope base unit.
The attachable gooseneck cameras are waterproof and suitable for use in aqueous liquids (not
acids or alkalis).
The base unit must not get wet or be immersed.
The power is supplied by 4 AA batteries.
Do not use in areas where there is a danger of explosion or on persons or animals.
Any other use than described above is not permitted, it could cause damage to the product and
personal injury. No part of the product may be modified or converted!
The safety instructions are to be observed without fail!

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Please read all of the operating instructions before using the product for the
first time; they contain important information about the correct operation.
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe
these safety instructions! We do not assume any liability for any consequential
damage!
Nor do we assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by
improper use or non-compliance with the safety instructions! In such cases
the warranty will be null and void.
• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the unit is not permitted
because of safety and approval reasons (CE).
• When not in use, always place the base unit and its accessories in the case .
• Sensitive surfaces (furniture polish, etc.) might cause chemical reactions with the
housing.
• Avoid strong mechanical stress or vibrations.
• The device is not a toy and should be kept out of the reach of children!
• Do not leave packing materials unattended. They could become a dangerous
playthings for children.
• In commercial facilities, the safety regulations laid down by the professional trade
association for electrical installation and facilities must be observed.
• If you have reason to assume that safe operation is no longer possible, disconnect
the device immediately and secure it against inadvertent operation. It can be
assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if:
- the device is visibly damaged,
- the device does not function any longer and
- the device has been stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of
time or
- it has been subjected to considerable stress during transportation.
• You should also heed the safety instructions in each chapter of these operating
instructions as well as in the operating instructions for connected devices.
• Never switch the device on immediately after it has been taken from a cold into a
warm environment. Condensation that forms might destroy your device. Allow the
device to reach room temperature before switching it on.
GETTING STARTED
The endoscope is only to be used to inspect systems that are voltage-free.
The different camera heads are made of metal and can cause short circuits.

For safety reasons, switch off the power to all components prior to every
inspection.

INSERTING/CHANGING BATTERIES

The endoscope base unit is battery-operated. Please insert new batteries before using for the
first time or when the device can no longer be turned on.
Proceed as follows to replace the batteries:

1. Open the battery compartment by sliding its cover.
2. Take out the battery holder, if it is in the battery compartment.
3. Put in new batteries / exchange the existing batteries in the battery holder, paying attention
to the correct polarity.
4. Place the battery holder in the battery compartment, paying attention to the correct polarity.
5. Close the battery compartment.
Do not mix old and new batteries. Always replace all the batteries at the same
time, otherwise the batteries discharge each other. Always use batteries of
the same type and brand.
Do not leave flat batteries in the device. Even batteries protected against
leakage can corrode and thus release chemicals that could be detrimental to
your health or destroy the device.
Do not leave batteries lying around carelessly. They might be swallowed by
children or pets. If swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.
Remove the batteries, if the device is not to be used for while, to prevent
leaking. Leaking or damaged batteries might cause acid burns if the come into
contact with the skin. Therefore, use suitable protective gloves.
Make sure that the batteries are not short-circuited. Do not throw batteries
into a fire.
Batteries (non-rechargeable) must not be recharged. There is danger of
explosion.
You can order suitable alkaline AA batteries stating the following order number:
Order no. 652504 (4-pack, please order 1x).
ATTACHING/CHANGING THE ENDOSCOPE CAMERA
1. Connect a compatible camera to the socket. Observe the correct orientation; the hollow part
on the jack (on the endoscope camera) should fit in the protruding part on the socket (base).
Be careful not to break the pins.
2. Turn the metal screw fastener clockwise, to secure the camera.
3. Remove the camera, by turning the metal fastener on the camera counter-clockwise.
