2. Press the release tabs inward to
unlock them from the upper cover,
and then pull out the spool retainer
(Fig. 16).
3. Remove the spool assembly from
the spool retainer. Use a clean cloth
to clean the inner surface of the
spool retainer and upper cover.
NOTICE: Always thoroughly clean the
spool retainer and upper cover before
reassembling the trimmer head.
4. Check the spool retainer, spool assembly, and upper cover for wear. The spool
assembly includes spool and bump feed button as well as the Torx screw and
washer for locking. Replace any worn part for safe operation.
5. Take approximately 23 ft (7m) of not more than 0.105 in. (2.7 mm) diameter
cutting line. Fold the line in half and then adjust it so that one end is 4.7 in.
(12cm) longer than the other.
6. Hook the folded end of the cutting
line onto either of the slots in the
spool assembly and then wind it,
in two even and tight layers, in the
direction indicated by the arrow
marked on the spool (Fig. 17).
NOTICE: Failure to wind the line in the
direction indicated will cause the trimmer
head to operate incorrectly.
7. Place the ends of the line in two
opposite notches in the spool
assembly, with approximately 5 in.
(13 cm) protruding (Fig. 18).
