Markings on the helmet body (Fire Helmet HPS 6100)
DST 166 - B
DST: Abbreviation for Dräger Safety
166: Number of the European Standard under which the helmet is
certified.
B:
Resistance to flying particles with medium impact energy (120 m/s)
Adjusting the helmet height
The inner netting (helmet height) is adjusted by
moving the rear net holder (1) and fastened by
buttoning in the holes of the guide buckles (2).
Make sure that the ridges are firmly pressed
into place.
Adjusting the helmet width
Fire Helmet HPS 6100 is designed for a head
size range of 52 cm to 64 cm.
For head sizes within the basic range (54 cm
to 62 cm), the helmet width is adjusted by
sliding both ends of the head ring (3). Make
sure that the ridges (4) are firmly locked in the
appropriate holes (5).
For smaller or larger head sizes, Fire Helmet
HPS 6100 can be adjusted as follows:
To adjust to the head size range from 52 to 53 cm, an extra-thick special
padded strip is available as accessory. This strip must be fitted as
replacement for the standard padded strip inserted against the head ring
underneath the leather sweatband.
The helmet can be individually adjusted to a head size up to 64 cm by
releasing the button on the head ring (and pressing it into the second hole).
For head sizes up to 62 cm, this function can also be used as a quick
adjustment feature for fitting a full-face mask with head harness.
Adjusting the chin and neck straps
Hold Fire Helmet HPS 6100 with both hands by the chin and neck straps.
Pull the helmet over your head from the front and close the quick fastener
of the chinstrap. Both neck straps must fit tightly under the ears and
around the back of the head. Two adjusting buckles are provided to adjust
the length of the neck straps. The chinstrap must fit flush under the chin. If
necessary, the length of the chinstrap can be adjusted with the aid of the
double clasp.
Changing the visor lens
The visor is fastened to Fire Helmet HPS 6100 by means of two slotted
screws. To replace the visor, remove the old visor from Fire Helmet
HPS 6100 after removing the fixing screws. To fit a new visor, squeeze it
slightly and insert it in the two side fittings inside Fire Helmet HPS 6100,
making sure that the pin in the middle of the retaining clip is inserted in the
guide rail on the inside of Fire Helmet 6100. The two slotted screws can
then be inserted and tightened in order to secure the visor. The protective
film on a new visor must not be removed until the visor has been fitted.
Fitting the neck guards
The neck guards have a retaining clip with 3 lugs on the inner side for
fitting to Fire Helmet HPS 6100. Press the retaining clip between the
helmet shell and the rear adjusting ring so that the lugs engage in the
specially provided recesses of the rear adjusting ring.
Fitting reflective strips
See diagram.
Service life
This Fire Helmet HPS 6100 has
a painted helmet shell made of
glass-fibre reinforced
thermosetting plastic (UP-GF).
This material has outstanding
ageing resistance and is not
affected by sunlight (UV-
radiation). It has much higher
resistance to climatic, chemical and thermal stresses than thermoplastic
materials.
Dräger Safety recommends that the helmet should not be used beyond a
maximum service life of 15 years.
The service life of the visor is directly dependent on the nature of the
stresses. In the event of visible damage or detracted visibility (e.g.
scratches, discoloration, dirt or deep score marks), the visor should be
replaced as soon as possible. Dräger Safety recommends that the visor
should not be used beyond a maximum service life of 3 years.

Checking usability
At regular intervals and depending on usage (e.g. after each firefighting
and rescue operation), the helmet shell, inner fittings, visor, chin strap and
accessories should be inspected. A damaged or weakened
Fire Helmet 6100 (or helmet component) must not be reused.
The paint surface of Fire Helmet 6100 must also be inspected for damage,
because the special self extinguishing paint system is an important factor in
the thermal strength of Fire Helmet HPS 6100, and damage to the paint
can also lead to a reduction in the service life. Small surface scratches do
not reduce the protective effect.
Fire Helmet HPS 6100 must never be reused after exposure to high stress,
strong impact or other forces. This rule applies even if no exterior damage
is visible.
For safety reasons, damaged or stressed Fire Helmets HPS 6100 must be
rendered unusable.
Use with a full-face mask equipped with a harness
When wearing a full-face mask with a strap harness in combination with
Fire Helmet HPS 6100, the head strap must in general be adjusted. A
5
quick adjustment feature is provided in Fire Helmet HPS 6100 for this
purpose (N.B.: only usable in the 52 cm to 62 cm head size range). The
size can be simply extended by releasing the button on the head ring and
pulling the head strap.
The helmet can be adjusted back to normal head size immediately by
pushing the head strap inwards and pressing in the button.
Before using Fire Helmet HPS 6100 for the first time with a full-face mask
equipped with strap harness, check that the helmet is adjusted to the
second size setting (with slider and button). If adjustment is necessary, the
button must be released and the head strap pulled apart.
Cleaning and care
Clean the helmet shell and inner fittings with lukewarm soapy water. The
inner fittings of the helmet can be treated with disinfectant (e.g. Multisept,
Heliosept or Incidur) or washed in a washing machine in delicate fabric
o
mode at 30
C. Do not use solvents. The integrated visor must also only be
cleaned by rubbing with lukewarm water and soap and then rinsed clear
and wiped dry. An alcohol-free window cleaning product may also be used
to clean the visor.
Correct cleaning, care and handling of Fire Helmet HPS 6100 and visor
are essential for ensuring perfect operation.
Storage and transport
Fire Helmet HPS 6100 must be stored in a cool, dry and sheltered place.
Despite the UV resistant helmet shell, exposure to direct sunlight should be
avoided during storage in order to prevent possible damage to the paint by
UV-radiation over the long term (in particular in the case of fluorescent
colours).
Fire Helmet HPS 6100 can be transported in its cardboard box, provided
that it is protected by a sufficient quantity of packing paper.
The visor should be stored in a clean, dry environment protected against
direct sunlight. The permitted storage temperature range is 0 to 45
normal atmospheric pressure, with relative humidity up to 90 %. On
delivery, the visor is packed in a protective film, which should not be
removed during storage. After removal of the protective film, we
recommend that you store the visor in its fully-mounted position on
Fire Helmet HPS 6100.
Avoid storing the visor close to aggressive substances such as solvents
and fuels.
