Dust/Chip Extraction

Dust from materials such as lead-containing coatings, some
wood types, minerals and metal can be harmful to one's
health. Touching or breathing-in the dust can cause allergic
reactions and/or lead to respiratory infections of the user or
bystanders.
Certain dust, such as oak or beech dust, is considered carci-
nogenic, especially in connection with wood-treatment ad-
ditives (chromate, wood preservative). Materials containing
asbestos may only be worked by specialists.
– Provide for good ventilation of the working place.
– It is recommended to wear a P2 filter-class respirator.
Observe the relevant regulations in your country for the ma-
terials to be worked.
Avoid dust accumulation at the workplace. Dust can
u
easily ignite.
Changing the sanding sheet
Remove dirt and dust from the sanding plate (5), e.g. with a
brush, before attaching a new sanding sheet.
Sanding sheets without hook-and-loop backing (see
figures A–D)
❶ Pull out the front clamping lever (6) and lift it up.
❷ Feed the sanding sheet (7) all the way under the opened
front clamping bracket (8). Fold the front clamping lever
(6) all the way back in. Ensure that the sanding sheet is
clamped centrally and is not too short.
❸ Pull out the rear clamping lever (3) and lift it up.
❹ Position the sanding sheet (7) so that it fits tightly
around the sanding plate. Guide the other end of the
sanding sheet (7) underneath the open rear clamping
bracket (4).
❺ Keep the sanding sheet (7) taut and fold the rear clamp-
ing lever (3) all the way in to lock the sanding sheet. En-
sure that the sanding sheet is clamped centrally and is
not too short.
To remove the sanding sheet (7), pull out the rear clamping
lever (3), lift it up and pull the sanding sheet out of its rear
holder. Pull out the front clamping lever (6), lift it up and
completely remove the sanding sheet.
Selecting a sanding sheet
Different sanding sheets are available, depending on the ma-
terial you are working with and the required surface removal
rate:
For processing all wood and wood-based ma-
terials
For pre-sanding, e.g. of rough and un-
even beams and boards
Bosch Power Tools
For surface sanding and levelling of
slight irregularities
For finish-sanding and fine sanding of
hardwoods
For processing paint and lacquer layers or
primers such as fillers and bodyfillers
For sanding down paint
For sanding undercoats
For final sanding of primers prior to
painting
Changing the sanding plate (see figure E)
If necessary, the sanding plate (5) can be replaced.
Unscrew the four screws (10) completely and remove the
sanding plate (5). Fit the new sanding plate (5) and
retighten the screws.
Operation

Starting Operation

Pay attention to the mains voltage. The voltage of the
u
power source must match the voltage specified on the
rating plate of the power tool. Power tools marked
with 230 V can also be operated with 220 V.
Products that are only sold in AUS and NZ: Use a resid-
u
ual current device (RCD) with a nominal residual current
of 30 mA or less.
Switching on/off
Make sure that you are able to press the On/Off switch
u
without releasing the handle.
To start the power tool, press and hold the on/off switch
(1).
Press the lock-on button (2) to lock the on/off switch (1) in
this position.
To switch off the power tool, release the on/off switch (1);
or, if the switch is locked with the lock-on button (2), briefly
press the on/off switch (1) and then release it.

Working Advice

Grit
Pull the plug out of the socket before carrying out any
u
work on the power tool.
40–240
Always wait until the power tool has come to a com-
u
plete stop before placing it down.
The material removal rate when sanding is primarily determ-
ined by the choice of sanding sheet.
Only immaculate sanding sheets achieve good sanding per-
formance and make the power tool last longer.
Coarse 40, 60
Be sure to apply consistent contact pressure in order to in-
crease the lifetime of the sanding sheets.
