uk │ 3. Safety instructions
RB 170 ventilation units must
not be installed if there are air-
ventilated fireplaces in the living
unit that are connected to exhaust
gas systems, which themselves
have multiple connections.
In order to permit the intended
operation of a ventilation system
equipped with central ventilation
units with RB 170 heat recovery,
it must be possible to block off
any combustion air ducts or
exhaust gas ducts from air-
ventilated fireplaces.
In the case of solid fuel fire-
places, any shut-off device may
only be operated manually.
It must be possible to identify
the position of the shut-off
device from the setting of the
operating handle. This is
considered to be fulfilled if a
soot shut-off device is deployed.
3.4.2 Fire protection
requirements
In terms of the fire protection
installation requirements for
setting up the ventilation
system, note the federal state
law rulings, especially the
official guideline on fire
protection requirements of
ventilation systems in its most
recent version.

4. System components

4.1 Ventilation unit

● Degree of heat provision up to 94 %.
● Fans, with particularly energy-saving
DC motors.
● Separate setting for the supply air and
exhaust air quantities for ventilation levels
1, 2 and 3 are possible. Air volumes can
be adjusted by a trained electrician
through 6 potentiometer adjusters on the
control circuit board.
● Volumetric flow range of 40...160 m³/h.
The pre-selected volumetric flow is also
maintained in the case of system pressure
changes caused, for example, by dirt in
the filter.
● The highest permitted resistance in the
channel system at maximum ventilation
power is 100 Pa. Increased resistance in
the channel system reduces the ventilation
power.
● Frost protection monitoring. Prevents the
heat exchanger from freezing up at low
outside temperatures. Temperature
sensors continually check the temperature
on the heat exchanger and of the outside
air.
● Frost protection in the standard unit:
The supply air fan switches off when the
temperature at the heat exchanger falls
below the switch-on point set for the frost
protection function ( Chapter 6.7.5). The
supply air fan remains switched off until
the temperature at the heat exchanger
exceeds the switch-off point set for the
frost protection function.
Only then does the supply air fan switch
back on.
● Frost protection in comfort/bypass unit:
A frost protection heating register is fitted
here as standard. Frost protection is
provided by pre-heating the outside air.
● Cross counterflow plate heat exchanger:
The supply air and the exhaust air are fed
through the heat exchanger in separate
channels for the heat transfer.
