1. Framing Preparation

NOTE: Carefully study the roughing-in pages and the illustration above before you begin construction of
the framing. Follow the framing details carefully.
Use 2x4 or 2x6 framing. Provide access to the pump in the event the system requires service.
Determine the drain location.
We recommend a room size approximately 60" (152.4 cm) long by 48" (122 cm) wide x 84" (213.4
cm) high for the installation.
The basin design must provide for a water depth of at least 3" (7.6 cm) above the top of the suction
cover. This will allow an overall basin depth of about 9" (22.9 cm). The threshold of the basin
should be 6" (15.2 cm) to 7" (17.8 cm) above the top of the suction cover. Construct the basin
framing to result in an overall basin water capacity between 90 gallons (341 L) and 200 gallons (757
L).
You must provide at least 32 cubic feet (length x width x height) (.9 cubic meters) of unrestricted air
space around the pump box. This allows the motor to cool properly and provides access to the
pump. We suggest you construct a false wall behind the face wall framing. Locate the false wall
along the tower wall.
For new installations, build this false wall with at least 14" (35.6 cm) of access space to the back of
the face wall. For existing installations with finished walls, or if separate access panels for the
pump, drain, water supplies and suction assembly are not feasible, provide more than 14" (35.6 cm)
of access space between the false and face walls so a person can maneuver between the walls.
Carefully study the door enclosure installation instructions packed with the door. Locate the door
perpendicular to the tower wall. Construct suitable framing for the door, including a header and
support framing above the doorway to prevent heat and moisture loss.
If you plan to install grab bars or other accessories, provide sufficient backing.

¤ The room size and layout is known.
¤ There is a minimum of 32 cu ft (.9 cu m) air space around pump box.
¤ The footbath basin size and shape are known.
¤ The face and false wall locations are known.
¤ The drain location is known.
