6 Description of the product and accessories

6.1 General description

The fire-extinguishing system Wilo-FLA Compact
according to DIN 14462 is completely cased as a
compact unit and prepared ready for connection,
but separated for transport between tank and
pump module. Only the connections for the inlet
and the pressure pipe as well as the electrical
mains connection still need to be established.
In addition, the suction and bypass line that was
separated between the tank and the pump for
transport must be connected and the plug of the
signal line for dry run and overflow alarm must be
locked in the corresponding bush on the switch-
gear.
It may also be necessary to install the supplied
accessories ordered separately.
The replenishment valve (float valve) on the
unpressurised break tank is connected directly to
the water supply network via a flexible pipe
(Fig. 6a/b). The required system separation is
ensured by the free outlet in the break tank.
You will find notes on the pump type used in the
attached installation and operating instructions
for the pump.
Observe the relevant, applicable regulations and
standards when using the fire extinguishing water
supply. The system must be operated and main-
tained in accordance with the relevant instruc-
tions (in Germany according to DIN 14462 and
DIN 1988(DVGW)) so that the operational relia-
bility of the fire extinguishing supply is perma-
nently guaranteed and neither the public water
supply nor other consumption installations are
detrimentally affected. The respective valid reg-
ulations or standards (chapter 1.1) must be
observed for connection and connection types to
public water networks. These standards may be
supplemented by regulations from the water
supply companies (WVU) or the responsible fire
protection authorities.In addition, local condi-
tions must be taken into account.
6.2 Components of the fire-extinguishing system
Compact in accordance with DIN 14462
(FLA Compact)
The system is made up of the main components
described below. The scope of delivery includes
separate installation and operating instructions
for the relevant operating parts/components.
(accompanying installation plan).
A distinction is made between the series
FLA Compact-1 (single pump system) and
FLA Compact-2 (redundant double pump
system).
Mechanical and hydraulic system components:
Series FLA Compact-1 (Fig. 1a)
The system consists of a break tank (item 28)
which is connected to a pump module. The float
valve (item 30) is located in the break tank
(item 28) is the connection point for the fresh
Installation and operating instructions Wilo-FLA Compact
water connection. The pump module is mounted
on a base frame with vibration absorbers (item 3).
It comprises a high-pressure multistage centrifu-
gal pump with a three-phase current motor
(item 1), with a shut-off device (item 6) mounted
on the suction side. The connection to the break
tank is made by means of the compensator
(item 17). On the pressure side of the pump, a
bypass line (item 15), with shut-off device
(item 11) and flow restrictor (item 18) is led to the
break tank (item 28) and a non-return valve
(item 7) as well as a shut-off device (item 6) is
mounted on the pressure connection (item 5). On
the pressure connection, a kit that can be shut off
with a pressure switch (item 12) and a pressure
gauge (item 9) as well as an 8-litre diaphragm
expansion tank (item 8) is mounted to a through-
flow fitting (item 14) that can be shut off. The
control device (item 2) is attached to the base
frame by means of a upright support bracket
(item 10) and is wired to the electrical compo-
nents of the system.
Series FLA Compact-2 (Fig. 1b)
The redundant double-pump system consists of a
break tank (item 28) which is connected to a
pump module. The float valves (item 30) located
in the break tank (item 28) are the connection
point for the fresh water connection. The pump
module is mounted on a base frame with vibration
absorbers (item 3). It consists of 2 autonomously
operating single-pump systems. The 2 high-pres-
sure multistage centrifugal pumps (item 1) are
connected on their suction side to the break tank
shut-off device (item 6) and a compensator
(item 17). On the pressure side of each pump, a
bypass (item 15), with shut-off device (item 11)
and flow restrictor (item 18) is led to the break
tank (item 28) and a non-return valve (item 7) as
well as a shut-off device (item 6) is mounted on
the common pressure collecting pipe (item 5).
On the pressure collecting pipe, there is an assem-
bly that can be shut off with 3 pressure switches
(item 12A, 12B, 12C), a pressure gauge (item 9),
an air vent valve (item 13), an 8-litre diaphragm
expansion tank (item 8), and a shut-off device
with a drain valve (item 14). For compact units,
the control device (item 2) is attached to the base
frame by means of an upright support bracket
(item 10) and is wired to the electrical compo-
nents of the system. In the case of larger systems,
the control device is accommodated in a separate
free-standing cabinet (SG) and the electrical
components are pre-wired to the corresponding
connection cable.
These installation and operating instructions
describe the overall system in general only, with-
out going into a detailed description of the opera-
tion of the control device (chapter 7.3 and the
accompanying documentation for the control
device).
