  • Page 8 EnGlISh Before first use Remove any sticker, protective foil or plastic from the soleplate. Rinse and dry the filling cup. Preparing for use Filling the water tank Make sure the appliance is unplugged. Set the steam control to position 0 (= no steam) (Fig. 2). Open the cap of the filling opening. Tilt the iron backwards and use the filling cup to fill the water tank with tap water up to the maximum (Fig. 3). Do not fill the water tank beyond the MAX indication. Do not put perfume, vinegar, starch, descaling agents, ironing aids or other chemicals in the water tank. If the tap water in your area is very hard, we advise you to mix it with an equal portion of distilled water, or to use distilled water only.

  • Page 10 EnGlISh Ironing with Ionic DeepSteam (GC4444, GC4440, GC4430 only) When you use the Ionic DeepSteam function during steam ironing, the steam produced is finer than during regular steam ironing. Fine steam reaches deeper, especially into thick fabrics. This helps you to remove stubborn creases easily.
  • Page 11 EnGlISh If you have been steam ironing, empty the water tank. Let the iron cool down in a safe place. Features Spray function You can use the spray function at any temperature to moisten the article to be ironed. This helps remove stubborn creases. Make sure that there is enough water in the water tank. Press the spray button several times to moisten the article to be ironed (Fig. 10). Steam boost function A steam boost from the special Steam Tip soleplate helps remove stubborn creases.
  • Page 12 EnGlISh automatic shut-off function (GC4444, GC4440, GC4430, GC4425, GC4422, GC4420, GC4412 only) The automatic shut-off function automatically switches off the iron if it has not been moved for a while. The red AUTO/OFF indication of the temperature light flashes to indicate that the iron has been switched off by the automatic shut- off function. To let the iron heat up again: Pick up the iron or move it slightly.
  • Page 13 EnGlISh Cleaning and maintenance Cleaning Wipe flakes and any other deposits off the soleplate with a damp cloth and a non-abrasive (liquid) cleaning agent. To keep the soleplate smooth, avoid hard contact with metal objects. Never use a scouring pad, vinegar or other chemicals to clean the soleplate. Clean the upper part of the iron with a damp cloth. Regularly rinse the water tank with water. Empty the water tank after you have rinsed it. Double-active Calc System The Double-Active Calc System consists of an Anti-Calc tablet inside the water tank combined with the Calc-Clean function. The Anti-Calc tablet prevents scale from clogging the steam vents.

Store the iron on its heel on a stable surface. heat-resistant protective cover (GC4444, GC4440 only) You can store the iron on the heat-resistant protective cover immediately after ironing. It is not necessary to let the iron cool down first.

Hitzeschutz für empfindliche Textilien (nur GC4425, GC4415) Der Hitzeschutz verhindert bei empfindlichen Textilien Beschädigungen durch überhöhte Temperaturen und glänzende Flecken. Dank des Hitzeschutzes können Sie empfindliche Textilien (Seide, Wolle und Nylon) bei Temperaturen von 3 bis MAX zusammen mit allen bei diesem Bügeleisen verfügbaren Dampfeinstellungen bügeln.
  • Page 27 DEutSCh Double active-Kalksystem Das Double Active-Kalksystem besteht aus einer Anti-Kalk-Tablette im Wasserbehälter in Kombination mit der Calc-Clean-Funktion. Die Anti-Kalk-Tablette verhindert, dass Kalkablagerungen die Dampfaustrittsdüsen verstopfen. Diese Tablette ist dauerhaft aktiv und muss nicht ausgetauscht werden. Mit der Calc-Clean-Funktion können die Kalkpartikel aus dem Bügeleisen entfernt werden.
  • Page 28 Stellen Sie den Dampfregler auf 0, und ziehen Sie den Netzstecker aus der Steckdose. Leeren Sie den Wassertank (Abb. 16). Lassen Sie das Bügeleisen an einem sichern Ort abkühlen. Wickeln Sie das Netzkabel auf und fixieren Sie es mit dem Kabelbinder (Abb. 17). Stellen Sie das Bügeleisen aufrecht auf einer stabilen Fläche ab. hitzebeständige unterlage (nur GC4444, GC4440) Sie können das Bügeleisen direkt nach dem Bügeln auf der hitzebeständigen Unterlage abstellen. Ein vorheriges Abkühlen ist nicht erforderlich. Benutzen Sie die hitzebeständige Unterlage nicht während des Bügelns. Stellen Sie das Bügeleisen auf die hitzebeständige Unterlage (Abb. 18).

Elektromagnetische velden (EMV) Dit Philips-apparaat voldoet aan alle richtlijnen met betrekking tot elektromagnetische velden (EMV). Mits het apparaat op de juiste wijze en volgens de instructies in deze gebruiksaanwijzing wordt gebruikt, is het veilig te gebruiken volgens het nu beschikbare wetenschappelijke bewijs.
  • Page 64 nEDErlanDS Laat de hittebestendige beschermhoes niet op de zoolplaat zitten tijdens het strijken. Zet het strijkijzer op zijn achterkant. Stel de vereiste strijktemperatuur in door de temperatuurregelaar naar de juiste stand te draaien (fig. 6). Raadpleeg het wasetiket van het te strijken artikel voor de juiste strijktemperatuur: voor synthetische stoffen (bijv. acryl, nylon, polyamide, polyester) voor zijde voor wol 3 voor katoen MAX voor linnen Als u niet zeker weet van welk materiaal het artikel gemaakt is, probeer de gekozen strijktemperatuur dan eerst uit op een plek die niet zichtbaar is wanneer u het artikel draagt of gebruikt.
  • Page 65 Opmerking: Als de ingestelde strijktemperatuur te laag is (MIN tot 2), kan er water uit de zoolplaat druppelen (zie ‘Druppelstop’ in hoofdstuk ‘Functies’). Strijken met Ionic DeepSteam (alleen GC4444, GC4440, GC4430) Als u de Ionic DeepSteam-functie gebruikt tijdens het stoomstrijken, is de geproduceerde stoom fijner dan tijdens het gewone stoomstrijken.
  • Page 66 nEDErlanDS Opmerking: Hoeveel Ionic DeepSteam wordt geproduceerd, kan van tijd tot tijd variëren en hangt af van de strijktemperatuur. Strijken zonder stoom Zet de stoomregelaar op stand 0 (= geen stoom) (fig. 2). Gebruik de Ionic DeepSteam-functie niet, want deze functie heeft geen effect als u zonder stoom strijkt. Stel de aanbevolen strijktemperatuur in (zie ‘Temperatuur instellen’ in hoofdstuk ‘Klaarmaken voor gebruik’). na het strijken Haal de stekker uit het stopcontact.   • Page 68 nEDErlanDS Zoolplaathuls ter bescherming van tere stoffen (alleen GC4425, GC4415) De zoolplaathuls ter bescherming van tere stoffen voorkomt glimmende plekken en schade door een te hete zoolplaat. Dankzij de zoolplaathuls kunt u tere stoffen (zijde, wol en nylon) strijken op temperatuurstanden tussen 3 en MAX in combinatie met alle stoomfuncties van het apparaat.
