2.1

Qualification of personnel

The electrical connections of the fan may only be performed by qualified electricians.
Installation, commissioning and maintenance work may only be carried out by explosion-proof authorised specialists.
2.2

Protection against accidental contact

When installing observe the valid regulations for labour protection and accident prevention! The operator is
responsible for compliance!
– Any contact with rotating parts must be avoided. Make sure that no persons, textiles or other materials which could
be sucked in, such as clothing, are close to the suction area of the fan.
– Depending on the installation conditions a contact safety device on the discharge side may be necessary.
– Fans protected by their installation in ventilation ducts or closed aggregates do not need a protection grille, if the
installation guarantees the same protection. We emphasize that the operator will be held responsible for accident-
soccuring as a result of missing protection devices and non-compliance with current standards (DIN EN 13857).
2.3

Air flow direction and direction of rotation

m
WARNING
Parts thrown out of the fan can cause damage to eyes!
Wear protective eyewear for checking direction!
m
WARNING
The rotating impeller can sever or pull your fingers/arms in!
Only operate with mounted safety devices!
Do not put objects into the rotating impeller! Risk of damage!
The roof fans have a fixed direction of motor rotation, which is marked on the units with an arrow (reverse
operation is not possible). The incorrect direction of rotation can lead to the overheating and destruction of the fan!
The direction of rotation must only take place after deactivation when the fan is coasting!
2.4

Speed control

Explosion-proof fans in the RD/VD.. Ex series may not be operated by means of frequency inverter!
Motors with the protection type increased safety "e" and non-sparking units "nA" are generally excluded from operation
with frequency inverters.
Units in this series are speed controllable through voltage reduction. At speed regulation the fans can be run by
a transformer with a voltage of 25% up to 100% (100 V - 400 V) of the rated voltageThe corresponding speed
controller and control units can be found in the sales documentation.
With regard to speed control, the maximum permissible air flow temp. during regular operation (T
exceeded. The transformer must be installed outside of the Ex zone.
The use of parts made by other manufacturers can, especially for electronic units, lead to functional problems,
destruction of the controller and/or the fan. When using control units that have not been approved by Helios,
any warranty and liability entitlements shall be void.
