12.5 Securing the wheelchair into the vehicle

WARNING!
All SALSA wheelchairs require a multi-point tie down
system for transportation.
To secure the wheelchair into a vehicle consult the
instructions supplied with the restraint system.
If no instructions are available Sunrise Medical
recommends the following procedure:
Front Tie-down: (Fig.12.9)
• Attach the front tie-down straps to the front tie-down
loops on the wheelchair .
• This may be a two-point or a four-point system,
depending upon the type of restraint system and the
total mass of wheelchair , (see warnings page 59),
• Secure the tie-down straps to the vehicle floor and
tighten.
• The straps should form an angle as close to 45º as
possible between the vehicle floor and the wheelchair .
Rear Tie-down: (Fig.12.10)
• Attach the rear tie-down straps to rear tie-down loops
on wheelchair .
• Secure the tie-down straps to the vehicle floor and
tighten.
• The straps should form an angle as close to 45º as
possible between vehicle floor and wheelchair .
• Attach the front tie-down straps to the front tie-down
loops on the wheelchair .
• Secure the tie-down straps to the vehicle floor and
tighten.
• The straps should form an angle as close to 45º as
possible between the vehicle floor and the wheelchair .
Docking Systems:
The Zippie Salsa M2 Mini is approved for use with
Wheelchair Adapted Vehicles (WAV). Product prescribers
or users should consult with the wheelchair docking
system supplier, and the WAV adaption installer to ensure
compatibility with the Salsa M2 Mini and the end user's
vehicle.
WARNINGS!
• All seating must be returned to its home position with
the seat tilt fully level and the backrest fully upright.
• Always make sure that the wheelchair is not left in
freewheel.

12.6 Hoisting the wheelchair:

(Fig.12.11)
The Salsa M2 Mini can be hoisted, unoccupied, by
means of four suitably rated lifting straps.
Connect the straps to the wheelchair using the four tie-
down brackets.
Refer to section 12.4 for details of the tie-down points.

CAUTION!
• Before you travel, please contact the appropriate
carrier.
• The travel operator will be able to supply details of
any special requirements/instructions.

12.7 Wheelchairs and train travel within the EU:

If you wish to use your wheelchair on the train, we
recommend that you contact the train operator in
advance when planning your journey.
Railway carriages have provision for a "wheelchair "
space where you can sit on your wheelchair during the
journey.
Please note that the overall length of your wheelchair
may be greater than the available length of the
"wheelchair " space in the railway carriage.
