Problem
The machine does not
switch on.
The pump is very noisy.
The coffee is too cold.
The milk does not froth.
It is not possible to make a
cappuccino.
Coffee does not brew.
The coffee is brewed too
fast, crema does not form.
Coffee is not brewed or
brewed in drips only.
Coffee flows out of the
edges.

Possible cause
The machine is not connected to the
power supply.
The water tank is empty.
The temperature ready light was
flashing when the brew button was
pressed.
The portafilter has not been preheated
(section 5).
The cups are cold.
The milk is not suitable: Powdered
milk or low-fat milk has been used.
There is no steam left in the boiler.
The cappuccinatore is dirty.
The machine is over temperature, the
machine ready light flashes quickly.
There is too little coffee in the
portafilter.
The grind is too coarse.
The pod is too old.
The "illy" button has not been
pressed.
Water tank is empty.
There is too much coffee in the
portafilter.
The "hot water/steam" knob is open. Close the knob.
The machine has limescale build-
up.
The filter in the portafilter is
clogged.
The pod is not suitable.
The portafilter is incorrectly inserted
in the brew unit.
The upper edge of the portafilter is
dirty.
The gasket of the boiler is dirty.
The pod is inserted incorrectly.
solution
Connect the machine to the power supply.
Refill with water (section 4.4).
Wait until the light turns on and remains fixed.
Preheat the portafilter.
Preheat the cups on the cup-warming
surface.
Use only cold, whole milk.
Prime the circuit (section 4.5) and repeat the
operations described in section 6.
Clean the cappuccinatore as described in
section 9.
Prime the circuit as described in section 4.5.
When the machine ready light is permanently
on, coffee may be brewed.
Add coffee (section 5).
Use a different blend.
Replace the old pod with a new one.
Press the "illy" button and wait until the machine
ready light remains fixed.
Refill with water (section 4.4).
Reduce the quantity of coffee in the
portafilter.
Descale the machine (section 10).
Clean the filter (section 9).
Change type of pod.
Insert the portafilter correctly (section 5).
Clean the edge of the portafilter.
Clean the gasket.
Insert the pod correctly.
