Information on diagnostics
The following pages contain information about diagnostics. To use the information, establish what
the existing problem condition is and follow the test procedures listed for that specific type of
problem.
Problem resolution
Observed problem: The electrodes are often dirty and ignition is delayed
Possible cause
A. Poor fuel quality.
B. The electrodes are too close to the diesel oil cone.
C. Dirty or damaged nozzle.
D. Incorrect pump pressure.
Repair procedure
A. Poor fuel quality.
Only use good quality fuel. Consult section 3 related to fuel choice and its characteristics.
B. The spark plug electrodes are too close to the diesel oil cone.
1. Loosen the screw fastening the burner to the combustion chamber.
2. Remove the burner from its seat.
3. Remove the sleeve from the burner.
4. Take the electrode-flame disc unit from the nozzle holder hose.
5. Clean and restore the original gap between the electrodes (it must be 0.11-0.15 in).
6. Reposition the electrode-flame disc unit according to the distances represented in Fig. 17 section 4.
7. Put the sleeve back on the burner.
8. Put the burner back in its seat.
9. Connect the heater to the power socket and try to turn it on.
10. Shut off the appliance and remove the burner and the sleeve again to verify if the electrodes are wet. If
wet, try to space the electrode-flame disc unit a few tenths of mm farther from the nozzle.
11. Check the heater operation once again until the electrodes no longer get wet with fuel.
C. Dirty or damaged nozzle.
1. Loosen the screw fastening the burner to the combustion chamber.
2. Remove the burner from its seat.
3. Remove the sleeve from the burner.
4. Take the electrode-flame disc unit from the nozzle holder hose.
5. Remove the nozzle from the nozzle holder.
6. If the nozzle is dirty, do not try to clean it by inserting wires into the fuel outlet. Place the nozzle in a
non-flammable solvent and use compressed air to remove any dirt from the nozzle.
7. Put the nozzle back in its seat.
8. Reposition the electrode-flame disc unit according to the distances represented in Fig. 17 section 4.
9. Put the sleeve back on the burner.
10. Put the burner back in its seat.
11. Connect the heater to the power socket and try to turn it on.
12. If the heater does not work correctly, follow the instructions shown above in point B, otherwise replace
the worn or damaged nozzle with a new one.
