sectional area of the existing flue chimney duct must be large enough to provide easy servicing and
maintenance of the flue vent duct. In either flue gas exhaust solution, the minimum flue vent duct ver-
tical length shall be 3.5 m. The flue vent duct system shall be terminated with a draught cowl which will
prevent rain, snow and wind from entering the flue vent duct. The VIKING free-standing pellet stove
features an integrated flue exhaust fan for easier removal of the flue gas. This solution does not relieve
the installer from securing the correct chimney draught of 12±2 Pa in the flue vent duct. If necessary,
the flue vent duct system shall be fastened to the building structure with suitably selected clamps.
If the flue vent ductwork will be exposed to condensation, a suitable condensate separator shall be
provided and installed by the installed.

FIRST FIRING

Before the first use of your pellet stove, contact the technical service personnel who will properly in-
stall and connect the pellet stove to building services. During the first few firing and heating cycles, the
pellet stove can emit a certain odour which may persist indoors for up to several hours after heating.
This is caused by curing of the paint coats at high operating temperatures. Pets and birds may be
sensitive to this odour. To complete the paint coat curing process faster, fire the pellet stove, set the
maximum operating temperature and leave it so for several hours. If soot appears on the hearth door
glass, remove it with a suitable glass cleaner (do this once the pellet stove has cooled down!). Do the
first firing of the pellet stove in a well-ventilated room.
Heating rooms with local heating units, including this pellet stove, may cause some discolouration of
the walls and the ceiling after some time. This is caused by the convection of indoor air, which carries
dust and particulates. The problem could be solved in part by ventilating the room often. If the pellet
stove is installed in a new building, start operating it after a minimum of 6 weeks. This is the period
required for the moisture to evaporate from the fresh walls, floors and ceilings.
