The installer must be particularly careful and vigilant when assembling
WARNING:
the inlet/outlet/drain connections of the softener. The use of flexible hoses is
compulsory and special care must be taken to ensure that the pipes are perfectly
supported so that no mechanical stress is applied to the softener.
There are 4 connections to be made to the water softener.
❶ = 2" threaded inlet for raw water, to be
connected with supplied 1 1/2" connector
and hose
❷ = 2" threaded softened water outlet, to
be connected with supplied 1 1/2" connector
and hose
❸ = Threaded regeneration water drainage
1" (DN25) barbed connector
❹ = Brine regulator connection 6/8 hose
The softener connections must be removable and accessible to ease
any maintenance operations. The pipes must be correctly supported
so that the appliance is not subjected to any force or stress.
RAW WATER INLET AND TREATED WATER OUTLET
The raw water inlet pipe must be of an adequate size to cope with the required production and minimum
regeneration flows (see technical operating conditions). We recommend fitting a manometer upstream of the
softener to monitor the water supply pressure.
We also advise fitting a filter upstream of the softener (max. 20μm filtration rating) to protect the unit from
foreign objects that could affect its operation.
The installer should check any specific sanitary regulations that may be in force at the installation location and
must comply with them. Samples can also be taken from the softener hydraulic unit (see the options section).
The water softener must be protected from any hot water backflow by use of suitable non-return devices,
fitted downstream of the appliance on the treated water conduit.
The installation upstream and downstream of the softener must not
increase the risk of "water hammer" effects (if necessary, provide
effective protective systems). BWT recommends the installation
of the by-pass module and associated hoses. The system includes:
- The general by-pass
- the mixer device
- the pressure monitor gauge
REGENERATION WATER DRAINAGE
The regeneration water from the softener is drained via the designated barbed connector no. ❸ on the water
softener multi-valve. During regeneration, this pressurised line will be correctly supported and fixed at each
end and will have the simplest and shortest route possible. It will enable a flow of 40 liters per minute to be
drained with a total load loss (load loss + geometric height) less than 3 meters from the water column (0.3 bar).
In compliance with any applicable hygiene regulations, a pressure break of at least 2 cm should be provided
between the regeneration water outlet and the drain pipe.
If the waste water is to pass through a recovery sump and lift pump, provision the equipment so as to avoid
any risk of flooding the area (should the lift pump break down unexpectedly during regeneration).
SALT TANK OVERFLOW DRAINAGE
The salt tank is fitted with a safety overflow that must be connected to either a gutter or the drain header.
Drainage must be by gravity, with no pressure loss. A pressure break of at least 2 cm must also be created.
The outlet hose shall be properly secured at each end with Serflex clamps or similar.
