10. Faults, causes and remedies

WARNING! Risk of electric shock!
Before any electrical work, the pump must be
de-energised (switched off) and protected
against unauthorised restarting.
Faults
The pump is not functioning
The pump is functioning but is failing to
reach its duty point
The output of the pump is irregular
The pump is vibrating or is noisy
The motor is overheating
The motor protection engages
The mechanical seal is leaking

All spare parts should be ordered directly from
Wilo Customer Service.
To prevent errors, always quote the data on the
pump's rating plate when making an order.

Causes
No electrical power supply
The motor protection device has cut
off the power
Incorrect direction of rotation
Foreign matter in the pump
Air in the suction pipe socket
Suction pipe socket too narrow
The valve is not open far enough
The voltage of the power supply to the
pump is too low
The foot valve is not immersed
The negative suction head (HA) is not
as required
The diameter of the suction piping is
less than that of the pump
The foot valve and the suction piping
are partially obstructed
Foreign matter in the pump
The pump is not firmly secured to the
ground
Bearing damaged
A phase is interrupted
Ambient temperature too high
Insufficient voltage
Pump obstructed by foreign matter
The mechanical seal is faulty

Remedies
Check the fusible cut-outs, the wiring
and the connections
Eliminate any motor overload
Check the direction of rotation and cor-
rect it if necessary
Check and clean the pump
Make the suction pipe socket air-tight
Install a wider suction pipe socket
Open the valve completely
Check that the voltage at the motor
terminals and the cross-section of the
conductors are correct
Immerse the foot valve (at least 50 cm).
Ballast the flexible hose piping if nec-
essary
Review the installation conditions and
the recommendations made in this
manual
The suction piping must have the same
diameter as the suction port on the
pump
Dismantle and clean
Remove the foreign matter
Tighten the anchor screws
Contact Wilo Customer Service
Check the fusible cut-outs, the wiring
and the connections
Provide cooling
Check the voltage at the motor termi-
nals; it should be within ±10 % of the
rated voltage
Dismantle the pump and clean it
Replace the mechanical seal
